Pace do you do your own taxes or have a firm do them?

I do them myself, since, aside from this, they're usually really simple XD

Yes, that I do XD
I've always used turbotax in the past, but I may look elsewhere for the self-employment element, which is new.

Unfortunately the self-employment tax is a pain with most of the softwares though I find that its easier to add a lot more deductions when self-employed so maybe you can find some loop-hole deductions to help you out with this.

Damn. I wonder if I'll have the same delema being a writer down the road.

I can ask a friend of mine, but having the connections that I do in the Writer/Author area, I can say that it will likely just come out of any Royalties or anything with the publishing company... Unless you self-publish, then you might get thumped with a bit of a tax.

I switched from using TurboTax to TaxAct this year cause TurboTax screwed me over last year and charged me twice what they had originally said

I am shopping around this year. Because in addition to getting shafted on the taxes, none of the 'free' filers cover filing self-employment.

Nope, butTaxAct was only $40 for my business taxes. Versus turbotax who wants to charge almost 200 nowadays

I used FreetaxUSA, the site will quite literally hold your hand through the entire process and will generate a W-2 form of all your freelance income and taxes pulled from it that you can print for your records. It also only charges you if you made above $45K if I remember correctly or if you want their protection/help if you get audited by the IRS it's only $6.99~

With that said, if you do your taxes quarterly, which is recommended for freelance or small business owners, it'll make tax season so much easier next time ;w;

There is a LOT I will be doing differently this year, for sure.
I was prepared to owe some taxes for sure, but I was only accounting for income tax.
The self-employment tax took me totally off guard. But, that's what I get for not doing
my research ahead of time OTL
