High prices/popularity RANT

Hi there everyone, I don't usually vent here and bother you with my emotional breakdowns but this time it's art related and it bugged me on few different levels.
Yesterday I put on auction a slot in my new project called Iron pony (for reference we talk bout this piece HERE )
I posted in here on FA where I'm most acctive but also on my dead tumblr and on pony fandom site where I have posted all my previous pony related art. I never had any complaints or mean comments there but yesterday.
You can check the comment here if you like, keep in mind that my english is soo poor that I sound like an half brain monkey (no offence to the monkies ) it was 2 A.M. for me back then. https://orig00.deviantart.net/e4ef/.....66-dc682fj.png
The commenter (I did not hid the name, cause it's already hidden and posted anonymously ) accuesed me of overpricing the piece and also had the audacity to say YCH auctions are for popular artist who have months long queue. At first I wouldn't want to even reply, since .. I didn't think it would change a thing. I know I can't change his mind, but then I saw those auction going on which clearly passed the pay of 100usd per piece and I got super upset. Why?
I work hard on my art. I know I'm not as good as many amazing artsit out there, I work with my girlfriend a lot so I can see the gap between my skill and hers, and I would never charge as much as she per artpiece. I put value in quality and hard work but I understand that SKILL is also what adds to the overall price of the art, some of those cool artist have studied a lot to become awesome and I'm still a work in progress. So what do I charge for? The price of my art is the price of my free time, of the time I could spend differently, for the time and effort I put in changes, fixes and updates I do for a commissioner. I never ask for any extra money for changes, everyone makes mistakes, I offten missunderstand references, or if there are a lot of details to remember miss some, but I never ever asked for more money than commissioner and I agreed upon start. I'm super gratefull for any and everyone who ever supported me in any way. The comment mentioned that the price for flats is most outrageous, well, it's not. Why? Because it acctualy takes the most time and work for me. You think that I'm probably loco, no, I'm not. The flat colour price, is not the price for me playing with a colouring book. It's the price for sketch, possible changes, linearting the whole thing and just then adding flat colours. Creating line art is most time consuming thing. Thats why Flat colours are THE BASE PRICE.
The other thing commenter mentioned is that the ych or high prices are for popular artist. That's the thing that bothered me almost as much as the previous. The links I provieded in the converstation are auctions going on on ych.commishes at the time. I just took them from frontpage, you could probably find them still. The thing about them is, I didn't even check who posted them, the art lvl was just similar to mine, I would even say that some things I do better. Still I heard that the popular artist have thousands of followers so yeah, that's that and I should lower my prices cause their starting prices where lower than mine. That's just laughable. Popular artist can set a starting bid price 2$. They can do that cause they know the auction is gonna hit 100$ eventually. Even more. I did those kind of stuff where I put very low starting bid price with hope to atract people and ended up without the money and possibilty to take more commishes cause my queue was still full. You cant even imagine how stresfull that can be. The other thing is, popularity doesn't make you work harder on art, doesn't make your time worth more. I don't mind people paying whatever they want for art from their favourite artist but saying that someone should price himself less, or overall think of themselves less just cause they are not as popular as other people, is just plain rude and stupid.
To end this rant which probably no one even read, please, if you see an art piece you think is overpriced, don't comment and leave. I cried myself to sleep cause I'm rly insecure about many things, and when I for once stood up for myself people decided to down vote my art. Yeah.. they did. I never got lot's of minuses (which you can get on this site) and now I have 12?
I won't stop drawing and do a huge, I'M LEAVING THE FANDOM stuff but yeah, that made me sad and I'm writting it here cause on FurAffinity I didn't faced any mean comments. Feel better here than any place else.

I dzięki Gniew. Apriszijejtuje to.
Your artwork is very nice by the way and i think your prices are fair for your skill level and popularity. Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks for the Kind words once again. It's always nice to hear something reassuring after you feel bad.
I will! thanks a lot :D
That dude's talk was cheap and so was his wallet.
A u nas w kraju kwitnącej cebuli to i nawet tacy, którzy by za darmo chcieli, bo to pasja przecież :P
A z tymi falowymi zarobkami to normalka chyba XD dlatego ja histerycznie chomikuję
Many people would be happy only if they'd pay nothing to get art! You choose the price depending on the value you give to your art, the efforts you put in it! :) Please, don't underprice yourself just to sell.. it's a bad mistake because you'll end making prices lower and lower
It will be a matter of time :) You'll get watchers and feedback (you're good and you miss nothing to have success with time) and therefore, there will also be people who will give your art the value it deserves
Stay strong! :D
This is pretty much the reason I moved here with my art, and made this journal right now. People often forget that art takes time. It's considered a hobby. It's not. Hobby it's something you do to just relax. Art is passion. Something you study, put your heart time and imagination in but also hard work. Hobby is playing video games, and yet, people are more likely to support youtubers who spend time playing and saying funny stuff than artists. It's not like I despise yt and people who make entertainment in general. I just want people to remember that I and all the artist work hard, and it's not "nice" to say I don't deserve the money I ask for, or I should be more popular to begin with.
Thanks a lot! It means a lot to me, that soo many people took their time to stop by and share some kind words!
People like that make me sick.. they expect you to do 10+ hours of work for what.. $1 an hour??
People who hate on artists prices either need to draw their own art or shut up because 99% of them are people who can barely draw a stick figure right. They can’t fathom how hard and tedious drawing is.
I just ignore it for the most part, don’t undersell yourself because some cheap-ass wants free artwork.
Art is a luxury item, just like a Lamborghini or other expensive car.
People often see art as an product similar to.. idk the postcard? or Poster? Its all art, but when you are a big company that sells merchandise you can sell piece for 5$ or 10$. You just make huge amount of copies and make a profit. When an artist does art he has to draw everything by hand, even if it's BASE or SLOT commission, he still has to do changes by hand. That's why art isn't cheap. It takes time and lots of work, and if one doesn't want to pay for it, dont. I never buy merch from game companies for example. I do enjoy the games they make, I pay for them and play them, but I don't think prices for a t-shirt with logo are fair, so I never bought one. Doeasn't mean I go and post in their stores that they shouldn't sell it to people that want it.
Sure people make postcards but it’s the same picture over and over again, it’s not like they have to hand draw every single postcard thing like artists do.
Jak mówi wielki wieszcz Tommy Weiseau w swoim wielkim dziele "The Room", ustami Grega Sestero "leave your stupid comments in your pocket" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu7uBD8J9Iw
The thing that's rly sad is that the problem doesn't belong to fandom. It's everywhere. People don't treat art, in general as something that you have to work on. They only acknowledge artist that became famous and work for big companies, or just have huge following. Non of them gained it over night, they all worked hard to get where they are and telling smaller artist that you should / shouldn't do something just because you're not yet there is hurtfull. I just want people to see the journal and think for a moment about it. About commenting on some other people hard work just because they can.
Also, fuck that guy
Too bad he posted anonymously, if I would know what pony he likes most I'd draw an overpriced piece of her, swiming in dollar signs with my hand putting cash into her panties. Such a lovely idea.
Good luck.
the art you made for me of paige is legit like, my favorite art of her i've ever recieved, and it's beautiful, as is the rest of your work
And once again thank you thank you thank you for all your kindness and the support you've given me <3
But yeah, people have different prices, so one can easly choose between artist, not leave comments to artists that they don't even want to commission/ don't think their art is worth the price.
The post is a year old so.. I mostly forgot all bout that XD not hanging around that place anymore though.
