At least for me. I've seen 5 different sex YCH's that look exactly like the next.
Or the posing is so bland.. so easy to just cash in on, I know that is what they are for, but some of the poses I see are like... so dead, static and just not even worth the money.
I hear plenty of bitching about doing it with adoptables.
My version of it is seeing a dozen WIP stages of the coloring process.
Capitalism.
But for me it's been a learning experience as to see how far an artist will go with what details.
If they won't bother with like, doing any changes or modifications to the characters (i. e. different body types) to fit the pose, then that's it for me.
On flip-side, anyone who does a YCH but pays special mind to how the character is shaped at the very LEAST may get a few bucks thrown at em.
Honestly prefer traditional commission way, though.
At least that's why I like them.
And I can see it. Describing what you want to an artist can be an exhausting, stressful thing.
With a YCH you don't have to describe the pose you want and you usually don't have to worry about the background.
It's so much less stressful as a buyer.
