If you post a picture that you plan to sell or something and somehow Discord wants to sell it first, they can say it's theirs since you posted it using their service. I know this sounds ridiculous but it's seriously in their terms.

If you look at FA's AUP you'll find similar language. It's mostly to keep them from getting sued by people linking or uploading images through their service.

Not even that, it's the usual panic at the term that says "we can do the things we need to do in order to do the thing you asked us to do by uploading that content."

The reason they word it like such is very similar to what ruathan said. It's something they have to claim in order to be able to distribute your content through their servers while complying with the current copyright law.

No, you have made a very common misreading of that type of TOS term.

The key bit is:
[we can do all sorts of things with] Your Content in connection with operating and providing the Service.

Note the limitation there, they can do just about anything _provided_ it's something they need to do in order to provide the service you are using. IOW, you grant them permission to do the thing you are asking them to do.

Funny how some people forget that if they don't handle their service right, the people who come for their services will look elsewhere.
