My thoughts on FA's new "paid subscription mode"
First and foremost...what the hell were they thinking?
For those who haven't heard, FA is gonna be rolling out a new "paid subscription mode" soon, I presume as an alternative to Patreon. I didn't read through the entire announcement because, as you already saw above, I think it's a really stupid idea. But the gist of the idea I got from briefly skimming it is that artists will be able to register for this FA paid subscription program, and then people who want to see their art when they post it has to pay $10 a month. Anyone who follows registered artists that don't pay the monthly subscription will need to wait for THREE MONTHS(!) before they'll finally be allowed to view submissions made under the subscription program.
You....

Look, I understand that artists need to make money. I'm not against that. But, when what is currently (I think still) the largest furry art site on the internet starts FORCING such a requirement upon their users, that's really stupid...not to mention the three-month waiting period before non-paying-subscribers will be allowed to see artists submissions...THAT SUCKS. Almost all artists I know who use Patreon typically only have a two week to one month tops period between posting their art there and then making it freely available elsewhere...but a mandatory THREE-MONTH wait is too fucking long. It's like FA is punishing those of us who are either unable or unwilling to pay the subscription fees.
ALSO...how much of that $10 per month is actually gonna be going to the artists, hmm? Think about THAT. I guarantee you not all of it is. Who knows how much FA is gonna be skimming off the top?
I just...UGH. This whole idea feels as though it was rushed without any real thought to the potential consequences and fallout behind it.
