i've been having a bad easter morning lads!!!
so the situation is that i'm trying to do my taxes. my dad claims me as a dependent though i don't live with him nor does he pay any of my living expenses. i thought maybe this was like, an honest error yknow. because i'm his kid. and multiple people and sources have said its illegal for him to claim me, so he just might not know?
but i called him this morning and told him he can't claim me, because it's illegal and ALSO, if i claim myself i owe the irs about $2500, but if he claims me it's gonna me significantly more, and i already can't afford the $2500.
he got downright nasty. he said i HAD to say i was his dependent. i said i can't. he said if i refuse, he cuts off my insurance and he won't help me with any medical bills. which, because of how little money i make, and because i have at least 2 chronic illnesses i;m trying to deal with, means i might legitimately die.
he's trying to threaten me into committing a crime, essentially???
i don't know what to do. i really don't. my options are a) commit a crime by lying to the IRS, and ALSO owe them a lot of money i cannot in any way pay . or (b) defy my father and lose any emergency fallback, my medical insurance, and probably die.
so. i don't know. if anyone has any... suggestions i'm open to them. haha.
