I would say that thumbnails are good because, if done right, it can help prevent people from looking at something they do not want to see. And it can also give people a taste of something good on the other hand. I....hope all that makes sense.

I don't particularly care much, but if I recall correctly, FurAffinity's thumbnails don't really work anyway, I've tried to use them on comic pages and they've never shown up for me. Maybe I just never figured it out properly though.

You have a good point! I'm just now realizing this. =P The only time I see them show up is on the mini (folder?) browser underneath a main submission image were you can navigate between recent submissions.

I can't say I care either way if thumbnails exist, though that might be because I am okay with seeing just about anything anyone posts.
In terms of practicality, if a submission is too detail dense to understand what it might be from the auto-generated thumbnail, a custom made one might be good

Thumbnails don't work in FA, it is a "known issue", so even if you report it, admins will only reply with "it's a known issue". So don't worry too much about it. Thumbnails are only useful if the auto-generated thumbnail is hard to read, or if you want to warn your audience about the content of the image prior to them viewing it full size.
