Obakawaii and ravencrafte sum up birthdays pretty well, though in the end it varies from person-to-person or family-to-family.

Personally I don't majorly celebrate mine - just eat some cake, if anyone buys any, and that's it. But getting birthday wishes is usually nice.
i agree, i also do not celebrate my birthday for several years. but it's nice to see my friends this time (i have a chance for this really rare)

tho i personally treat is as a normal day, some work, some less stress, some friends sometimes. getting wishes is nice, but since im not a party person, small stuff is fine ^^
