Wow. Just wow.

So, in case you didn't know - and unless you're in the right circles, you probably didn't - the administration of FurAffinity has begun a purge of those it deems "a poor match for our community".

I wish I was kidding. So long as your name is on the list, which seems very close to the AltFurry blocklist on Twitter, you get banned. And the message given to banned users is so nebulous and vague that there's no clear reason for the ban. At all. Just a "you're not welcome here anymore" and that's it. I imagine they're going to get mass appeals, but unless someone lights a fire under the fandom's collective tails, how much you want to bet any of this gets overturned?
My emotions have rather run the gauntlet here. I've been angry, I've been scared, I've been surprised. But now? Now I have to laugh. Because of this:

Eeeeeeyup. The admins of FA are not only instituting a purge of anyone they suspect of being AltRight or AltFurry, they can't even get that part right!
Ye gods, this is why I don't bring up the fandom to normal people, like my family. This is scary and embarrassing on multiple levels, and it's just hard not to wonder what the hell is going through anyone's minds at the top of this crazy place.
I really don't care if this journal gets me banned. Ya fucked up, FA. You might, just might, have the momentum to take the backlash from this and keep going. But I ain't a betting man, and I really have to wonder what your investors will think should you go belly up. Yet somehow, I imagine that'll only be a problem for the users who just want to share furry art, of almost any sort, on your free-to-use website without getting bogged down in politics and unnecessary drama.
I think that others have said it best: the site that will kill FA is FA itself. And this just might do it.
Oh, and side note to end this on: Discord ain't safe. I know. The server is gone. I recommend switching to platforms that are far more secure and will only suspend you for engaging in illegal activities using their platform. Or who may not even do that, if you're paranoid about even opinions becoming illegal. Which it seems some people want it to be.
Keep under the radar, make back-up plans, and don't trust these admins anymore. They've more than shown their true colors.

I as ignorant of exactly what is the Alt Right. So I looked it up. What I learned is that it is the new form for white supremacy, associated with several groups known for their hatred of others. That makes the movement a hate group.
First, I checked the Southern Poverty Law Center (whom I suspect as a hate group in itself). They define it as a hate group. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-.....logy/alt-right
I checked news media sites, they too define it as a hate group. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/02/.....lly-means.html https://www.vox.com/2016/4/18/11434.....ight-explained https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/20.....what-s-n637701 https://www.cnn.com/2017/08/14/opin.....ion/index.html
I tried to see both sides. The news articles are from both left and right, politically. But I have not seen any mention of the Alt Right in a positive light.
so what I can conclude is that if you advocate any hatred or hatred behaviour in any form, you will be ban. Not only opinions but also symbols associated with hatred. I guess what FA needs to do is better define a hate group and what constitutes hatred behaviour.
More to the point, the author asks the real important question: "What exactly is AltRight?" Because if you define it as "Nazis" or "white supremacists", then the admins have banned the wrong people. How many people were banned that had direct links to Richard Spencer and his group? How many were members of the Furry Raiders? And more to the point, what did they say or do to warrant their suspension? Because if you scroll down to the bottom of that article, you'll find that a lot of those suspended were guilty only of sharing conservative or moderate political opinions... but not on FA itself.
The admins have violated their own Code of Conduct by selectively suspending members for things they said off-site. That's the real problem. And until this is addressed, until it's fixed or undone, we're all just one wrong opinion away from getting the boot.
This isn't about the AltRight. It's about purging members whose opinions, even if kept off the website, are inconvenient or unpopular with those in charge.
It won't stop here. If the admins are bowing to the whims of the Cult of Taking Offense, they'll have to continue giving in until everything is destroyed for the common user. That's how it always ends. This is just the first step.
It's gonna get worse. Unless this is stopped now, FA is gonna sink. Either fight or flee. But if you do neither, don't say I didn't warn you when you find water creeping under your feet.
As a prime example, Jordan B Peterson got labeled as 'alt right' and he's nowhere close - he hates identity politics, identitarians, etc, and is rather centrist - maybe center right in economics.
Sargon of Akkad, classical liberal? Alt right. These are just some of the bigger names.
Several non-extremist conservatives are considered under 'alt-right' as well.
My fear isn't Nazis will get targeted (though I will defend their freedom of speech, I have no love for white supremacy). My fear is the label, whether justified or not.
And really, for a website that hosts enormous amounts of fetish furry art, you'd think they'd be easy going. Apparently not.
