I don't exactly do writing, but I have been studying sorries enough to give a general outline of a typical outline of sorts. Most common is a three-act structure: setup, conflict, and resolution. The setup is what tells the audience about the characters, the setting, and their goals and motivations. The conflict is what is in the way of the character's goals, with the resolution being how their problems are solved. Within the structure, there are story beats, and while there is some controversy on the number of beats the way I learned it was 5 so we'll go with that. Feel free to do your own research into other structures, it's a pretty interesting subject. Anyways, within the first act, there's the exposition and inciting incident, then the conflict, disaster, and crisis in the second, and then the resolution, which is simple enough, in the third. Otherwise, in terms of advice, read and write as much as you can. Like any skill, it's something that takes practice, and seeing how others do it can help quite a bit as well. That's what I got, so I wish you luck!

So alien invasion happens. Humans predictably screw it up and we wage war on eachother. Dogs are one of the few animals that can sense their arrival and have over time been specifically bred/genetically modified, sometimes hybridized with machine parts to make them stronger. They're kind of like first watch types with humans. They're trained from a young age to warn humans and help out. All of this still isn't enough to combat the invading forces and the majority of humans are destroyed leaving dogkind to fend for itself in a very hostile environment. I dont know what other points to bring in or how to bring conflict and resolution to a head that makes sense yet. That's all I've got for the story part of it.
