the act of an artist creating a piece of work, making multiple edits to it, and releasing the multiple edited versions as separate pieces, IE more than two. term originated from the shotgun ammunition "bird shot" which fires a spray of tiny metal pellets, similar in action to how an artist sprays the public with multiple versions of the same piece rather than "firing" out a single substantial version.
"this guy has been birdshotting pretty hard lately; the last pic they drew had six separate versions just slightly different from each other."
