Why do they need to come down?

Really old, for one. They're about 50' tall. There have been some other oaks falling in the immediate area and so I had mine looked at - one was getting hollowed out by ants, the other two are just at risk. Several dead limbs, bad angle of growth.

Hmm, well... I don't know the lay of your property or if you are in municipality etc. I've fell many a tree and it's not that hard just takes preparation but our property is out of city limits. I'll warn you that without their shade you also have to expect your cooling bill to go up significantly if they are East or West side trees.

Relatively small section of in-town property, postage stamp yard. The trees will fall on neighboring property if not dealt with. They shade they provide isn't substantial enough to affect heating/cooling.

Within the city, the trees are owned by and property of the city regardless if you bought them and planted them 60 years ago or not. I have a norway maple being slowly killed by carpenter ants, and i had to get the city's parks officer out to examine it and they said it could not be cut down, but can only be trimmed. they trimmed it up as best as they could for the poor thing. i then had to get a permit to plant a new tree next to it, and they had a list of trees that could be chosen from. took about 2 weeks for all this to play out, waiting for approval and all that stuff. and no i dont live in one of those HOA concentration camps, it's just the law is the law.
