Thank you for not treating my religion like a joke. I've known a few atheists who are overall decent people, but they make fun of religion. I'm all for laughing at one's self and the flaws in organized religion, but they did it in maliciousness. It makes me glad to know that civility is still alive.

Also, I will definitely look for this movie. I want to see it now.

You are welcome. I mate is a protestant and I'm working with catholics weekly due to my activity in my choire. I absolutely respect everyones beliefs (as long as no one's dignity of health/life is harmed) and I am try not to prejudcate anyone for ... well, for whatever reasons. With one or two of my fellow singers I have also had a discussion about god and faith and I am listening to what they are saying.

What I do not approve that much, is that you present so proudly on your FA page that you are a christian.
I did this as well a while ago (having an Atheist 'insignia' on my front page), but removed it, since I figured, that religion an politics are things that people tend to have rather strong opinions about and that have a tendency to divide people.
I do want people to see me first and formost as a furry and encounter me without religious or political prejudice.
The fandom seems quite unstable at the moment, when you look beyond all the nice art - especially on social media, and anything with the potential to split the fandom in groups is... not so wise right now, i guess. But that is just my perception and opinion.

I respect that opinion, and I see what you're talking about. I present my faith, but there's a caviot there: I also present my belief that God is not prejudiced against people and neither am I. So far, it hasn't caused any negative reactions. I believe our Creator makes us all unique and special so that we can learn, celebrate, and be made stronger because of them. That includes races, religions (or lack thereof), and sexual orientation.

I really appreciate, that you have such a open-minded nature. It has not always been that way for me with other christians.

I believe, that we are all prone to prejudice to a degree. Whether we refuse these thoughts or express them is up to us.
I think good (ethical and historic) education is key here.
And being able to take critique, if it is appropriate and well reasoned. (I don't mean you here in particular - just generally)

I agree. Education is one of the key elements in fighting prejudice. It also takes families, teaching their children to see past the absurdities of race and politics.

I haven't seen the film - but yeah Pope Francis is fairly good as far as theocratic leaders go. A lot of his beliefs mar on the side of Christian socialism, he made a lot of enemies of traditionalists in the structures but he made a lot of allies too.

I was going through the beginnings of my awakening when Francis came on the scene. I was impressed by his morality, at-first. And this is after I had dismissed the Dhali Lama as a false prophet after realizing the Buddha could not have achieved enlightenment (only if the species does.) Francis talked the talk. But as my awakening progressed, as my understanding improved, I began to see that while Francis' heart is in the right place, not understanding what precisely is wrong with humanity means you cannot ever offer a viable solution. While Francis may do more than any other Pope before here, to hope that he can help solve mankind's problems is not reasonable.

Francis offers false hope unfortunately, because the problem with everything is a mistake mankind made before we even considered creating the global society we have today. And as that global society is a mistake, it means that most people alive shouldn't be, and that the entire global society we have now is the result of a flaw made in the beginning, which means that society IS the problem. If society is the problem, then there can be no solution within society and therefore society must fully collapse for mankind to evolve past this mistake we made.

If Francis were as capable as he seems, he would have done far more with his time than he has so far. Francis can reform the Catholic church, but given that religion is part of the equation that is the basis of the problems that became ingrained in society, he cannot actually do anything for mankind except to offer false hope to those within a society that never should have existed, and which is soon to achieve its potential of self-destruction.


There is of course hope. We don't need heroes. We only need to realize that in letting someone else run our lives, we let someone else RUIN our lives. We are human beings, the most intelligent species on the planet. We do not need a society to protect us from nature. We need nature to protect us from society.
