I just moved from the GTA zone, St Catharines is a good area. My grandparents have lived there for 40+ years, it's a pretty cozy little area. I grew up in Grimsby myself. Burlington is another good area to look at.

In my experience a lot of the undesirables live in Welland. There are some nice areas but you get more rowdy sorts.

Especially if you're looking at a place to raise a family, Burlington or Mississauga are where I'd point to. Best school board in Ontario and both are still cheaper than the core GTA. Lots of cool foreign stores in Mississauga as well. You can get ingredients for all kinds of interesting dishes. There's also the OYAP program, which has really high engagement in Mississauga from its distance to Milton where most of the industry is booming now.

I don't live too far from Niagara. Live in London.

I live in Cambridge, know lots in Niagara, Kitchener Waterloo is more of a furry hot spot though.
