What do you miss about the early internet?

I was reading a subreddit talking about stuff you miss from the early internet. It got me thinking and reminiscing about what I miss so here goes. Forums. Before corporate took over all of social media, there were forums everywhere. It was actually 2 forums that introduced me to the furry fandom. I was a part of a few forums for anime and cartoons. We were a community and I made some good friends. I also miss the old YouTube, back when you could post amv's and not worry about copyright strikes. Also YouTube wasn't so corporate with mainstream media over all the place.

It's funny, just the other night I learned that the first forum I ever joined (while technically still online) was completely ruined and looks nothing at all like it used to. Doesn't even function right. It made me really sad to think of all the memories there that are completely gone.

I miss early google. When the processing power to do deep analysis wasn't there and you could actually do serious searches for unique sites.

When AOL had chatrooms, and AIM usernames, I would go into the fantasy chatroom and roleplay without even realizing it was roleplaying lol I'd look up dragon artworks and such. I felt like the internet was more connected then compared to today. I think everyone took forums more seriously and a lot less ads.
