Possible to nab the data files while a tech fixes it or something, put it on a usb thingy ? (no helpful advice here)

you can get a good harddrive for $44. Install your OS on the new harddrive and boot from it, and you might be able to recover your data from the old harddrive. harddrive recovery is insanely expensive, you can build your own pc (and a very good one at that!) for the cost of a simple recovery.

be sure to look up some pc building/repair guides before you do too much of a tear down, don't want to cause more damage than already exists!
Look up Corey Holzman on youtube, his videos were very helpful to me when i built my pc.

If you made a back up of your os your in luck and just need to buy a new hard drive. If not well things became a lot harder and expensive. You can possibly get a backup disk from the manufacturer of your pc but theyre not cheap depending on manufacturers if they even support the pc any more. Otherwise if you can some how get the data off the drive the there is a possibility to restore the pc to a new drive but that still requires a working computer. Otherwise for future reference always make a back up on a disks, usb, or externals to prevent expensive repairs like this.
