Xmen's Beast is a BADGER?
Tell me I'm not the only one who's read "X-men: Misfits?"
It's soo cracky it literally made me cry with laughter. Mostly due to the unintentional humor as an X-men fan who's watched the 90's cartoon, X-men:Evolution, read the original comic issues from the 70's to the early 2000's, and saw all the movies. This is a manga adaption... a shoujo manga adaptation of X-men... that means girlyness and sparkles and big shiny eyes everywhere. OHH THE JAPANITY.
It centers around Kitty joining the X-men, and so... unlike her American comics counterpart, she often turns into a chibi catgirl for no reason. pfffffft.
You may remember Beast as the big blue fuzzy guy that liked to read, as so: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....im_Lee_art.jpg
in "X-men: misfits" he looks like this: http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/7681/badger.jpg
big furry badger that goes RAWR!
I couldn't stop there, I had to scan more. look at all this CRACK:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/...../xmencrack.jpg
crack I didn't scan includes a sparkly Magneto, Prof.Xavier saying he would never create a team of superheroes, a panel where the boys look more like girls than the girl does, a panel where kitty thinks she's better than Nightcrawler because at least she shaves her legs, and so so much more.
speaking of Nightcrawler/Kitty:

Oh, and remember the Hellfire Club from the very famous Dark Phoenix saga? you know, the skeezy old men dressed like back in colonial times and the women who were...barely dressed?
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/m.....ire_Club_1.jpg
Yeah, well forget about that. misfits version? how about some barely dressed young men instead?

Surprisingly unchanged were Scott (Cyclops) and Storm. Storm looks exactly like her 1980's mohawked version. Scott is a stick in the mud... I swear, no matter what artist, writer, cartoon, or movie feature him, he is always the same. It's the one thing you can always count on, Scott will always, always be a tool.
but the funniest part to me was... well you know how Kitty is Jewish? And this whole graphic novel centers around Kitty and her point of view? Who is the first person the artist thanks in the back once the comic is over? JESUS. hahahahaha.
I was having a bad week until I bought and read this. Worth ever penny I tell you.
And the description of the upcoming volume two? do you think it's about saving the world or fighting evil? of course not!
"This year, boys will the least of Kitty's troubles, because Kitty is no longer the only girl at Professor X's academy! Between sharing the boys of Xavier's school with the new girls, and an action packed school tournament- with an obstacle course, a fashion show, and a cooking showdown- it's going to be one crazy semester!"
I look forward to it.

And don't forget the fashion show! they turned Longshot into a guy who's hair is in a ponytail, looks more like a girl than the girls do, and is obsessed with fashion. The dude with a mullet that throws knives is now pretty much a Project Runway contestant. pffft.
I don't know what kind of drugs Marvel was on when they greenlit this project, but I think I want some.
"Ow ow ow...
That made my brian hurt.
OOOW"
A roaring badger A ROARING BADGER! teheehee...
I understand anime/manga have beat the shit out of the American comic book industry, but sometimes the phrase "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," is overriden by the need to die with dignity. This is one of those times.
And remember that it's not replacing the American version of x-men in any way. ;)
THEN I'll comment to this.
No offense dear Squeaks When Hugged, but this is clearly one of those things that has to be seen to be believed.
or you can get it from Amazon for cheaper

the artist has a deviantart account as well

...OK.. OK... lets get this straight...
Professor Xavier can WALK..
The Hellfire Club are a bunch of pretty boys..
Kitty Pride is the ONLY female in the institute (Hell, I'd have even accepted Dazzler.)
...Angel/ Archangel is a womanizing shoujou blonde haired pretty boy (No, literally, the STAPLE of them)
Pyro....well actually, I like how he has a decent personality in comparison to the regular comics. (Though I thought he was an Aussie..)
Iceman who was supposed to be the jokester is pretty much this vapid loner..
....O..kay. This comic wins points for being original.
Insane- VERY.
But it's different. (Yup. I read it.)
You're right. No matter what series it is, Cyclops is going to be a tool.
It's like his personality tag comes with that. Though I'll give the artist points for using old school Storm. Not much else though.
........I don't even think I have an answer for this. I just... don't..
I... don't get the change to the Hellfire Club or WHY Kitty is the only girl either. unless its an attempt to cash-in on "Ouran Host Club" (a very silly very pink anime about a girl in a pretty-boy club).
Angel was always a rich pretty boy, So I don't think it's too much of a stretch to his character.
There are a few words here and there to show Pyro is still an Aussie, but overall a bad job of it by the writers.
Iceman totally had his personality removed.
It's comforting in a way to know some things never change (Cyclops).
Yup, it's like the artist looked at 1980's Storm, the exterior look of Xavier's school, and decided to change everything else and just keep those.
I'll give you the same answer gave bluecollie "Marvel is absolutely shameless. Sometimes I hate them for it, sometimes I just laugh. This is one of the times I just laughed."
This reminds me of the time I've walked through a Dollar Tree store and happened to be in the children's toy section. Right there they had books written and illustrated for little toddler children. On of these books was about.... The Incredible Hulk. Yes, that's right. The Incredible Hulk. In a cute kiddie storybook. The Hulk is seen being happy, smiling, and giggling while engaging in happy activities like birdwatching, fishing and playing hide-and-seek. All this while the Hulk is still in his green, bulking, "wearing nothing but purple pants" mode. You know, the same green, bulking, "wearing nothing but pants" mode where he is MEAN AND ANGRYand wrecking everything he touches in the comics/TV series and cartoons/movies. He should be only be in non-angry activies when he is Bruce Banner. All the weird lengths Marvel would go to reach a certian demographic.
Marvel is absolutely shameless. Sometimes I hate them for it, sometimes I just laugh. This is one of the time I just laughed.
