I saw her again.
She was evading me masterfully, but she couldn't outpace me and she seemed to know it. She was heading for a great cliff and I think she intended to jump and use her wings to glide away. I caught her near the cliff's edge and threw her down, and we began to circle one another. My fangs were bared and she was hissing at me...but our eyes met and we understood what was happening. Her heat called to me, and I intended to claim it...claim her. Her motions became more timid, submissive. Her instincts were screaming with a dominant male before her, and when I turned and came directly at her, she just waited, froze in place. My fangs found her neck and held her, and I dragged her over to the cliff's edge and we began..
She clung to me as I mated her, bred her, sated her heat. We didn't even know one another's names, but we knew this was happening, we felt it was meant to happen. When I had finished, she nuzzled up into my chest, and I lifted her from the ground and carried her to the remnants of the woods beyond the cliffside, resting with her as we began to speak gradually. She became so tense once the afterglow of our coupling had worn away, but still she remained sitting at my side, her tail laying over my own. We spoke for a long, long while, I learned she was Felixious, and I knew the name. She was important to her people, she was seen as a prodigy, destined for greatness. And here she was, nuzzling against a demon post-coitus. It made a rumbling chuckle escape me.
We were in the midst of our talks when she asked why I was even there, and I told her everything; my plan to abandon and escape Hell, find a place among the mortals, and live out a 'normal' life as best as I was able. She was confused but fascinated with the idea, and he allowed her to place her paw over his chest and feel his soul, and see the truth of his words. She also saw the truth of him and it frightened her. The swirling chaos, the cacophony of voices...though at that moment, all the voices were focused on one thing. Her.
She watched as I took her paw, and turned it palm-down. I extended one claw and it burned with my inner fire as I etched a rune upon the back of her paw, a rune with much significance among the divines. It was a rune meant to signify an eternal bond, a promise to protect and watch over, to come to their aid, and to protect their offspring. It was the closest thing to a marriage the Heavens and Hells knew, among the demon packs it was called a 'mating', a term the Cat Guardians also adopted. She knew and she just allowed me to do it, looking up into my fiery eyes as I pressed the back of my paw to her own, the mark igniting between them as our blood mingles to seal the rune, unbreakable by most means now.
We were mated, neither of us sure of our future but sure we were meant to face it together as we rose to our feet and she began to lead me towards a portal she kept safeguarded. We left this battlefield plane and returned into the fiery bowels of Hell, where I looked at last upon the culmination of my search, a great stone gateway, a faint shimmer in the center of the circular structure, its portal inactive. I could open it. I knew the methods, and even without a keystone it was trivial for me to open gateways at points of flux between the realms such as this. She watched as I charged ahead, waiting to dive in as if to stop me right at the end.
Our plan worked, and while I injured many, I was careful not to hurt her brethren, especially her closest companion among her kind, Leorahj, a powerful warrior whom I gained a great respect for as our claws clashed, teeth gnashed, and at last I ripped the warrior's spear away. With one well placed punch, I sent Leo tumbling away and turned my full focus now upon the flux in reality this gateway was built upon. My red runes burned in contrast to my black fur as my inner fires erupted with raw power, and as I felt the flux wrinkle and tear, I felt Felixious tackle me from behind as planned. My arms flex and thrust apart, the tear in reality cascading with blinding light as we tumble through it, the unstable tear rippling and sealing just after we are through.
There was deafening nothingness for a few moments, that desolate void between planes of reality, a terrifying realm I would one day explore and understand, but not back then. No, back then I was terrified of that expansive, infinite nothing, and with great relief another blinding light ignited and we tumbled out into a grassy plain, a cool breeze rolling over the golden field with a bright moon overhead. We lay panting from the strain of travelling between planes, and gradually got our bearings and set out into the wilderness nearby. There was what appeared to be a primitive settlement nearby, and we had no intention of encountering any mortals until we were sure about them and how they worked and thought.
My new mate looks back at me as we find a cavern to lay low in, and I give her a nod and a slight lifting of the corners of my muzzle. We were fine, so long as we were together. We knew this and understood this, and it's all we needed. I laid down in the back of the cavern and she curled up against me, my larger form looming over her as I lay my head upon her form, exhaling contently and rapidly finding sleep...
