The latest Smash Bros. is really shaping up to be a most epic game. Characters, like Trevor and Simon Belmont, will be coming in along with the return of my beloved Pichu. With Isabelle coming in I can almost cry over how I'll not be able to see this game well enough to genuinely play it.
Unlike other fighting games, like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, Smash has pits to fall in. Being blind works out in SF or MK as you need only listen to what side of the screen your character is on to execute moves to play. I've actually won a fair share of MK 9 and 10 matches sightless.
The Smash character select is also an area where I'll need help. This isn't to say I didn't need help to get to character select screens in MK or SF, but the 'token' is not as easy to select a character with as the character-by-character selections SF and MK have by tapping an arrow key.
*Sigh* I suppose, as of late, I'm feeling yucky about not having physical eyesight. It is limiting me at work, it's limiting me in gaming, and limiting me pretty much everywhere. There's really not a whole lot I can do by myself without the aid of someone else. Relying on others is bothersome because you feel like a total pain asking for descriptions, rides to-and-from places, etc. Uber 'could' be a solution if it didn't cost $16 one way to get to work. (Paratransit only runs until one hour before I could, at earliest, get out of work)
Please know I'm very thankful for all you have done to help include me despite not being able to see what you are doing. It has meant a lot while helping me to adapt to a life without sight. There are just genuine times I feel so vulnerable / left out as a result of having zero physical eyesight.
If anyone out there is getting Smash Ultimate do give Isabelle a solid play for me! :)

FA+

I'm hopeful that, one day, something is done to make the transition from childhood to adulthood with special needs is fixed. Being set adrift with little, to no, support is a real stresser and source of anxiety when, as a kid, you're built up only to be put down as an adult.
If it's any consolation, Uber may be my only form of transport in the future. When I'm riding with my Parents through heavy traffic and tight parking spaces, I said to myself "I'm never getting a car".
You made a table top version of Resident Evil? How cool! Could you share some details? I'd love to hear how it works. :)
Paratransit is a better bargain if you don't mind 'Shared Rides'. The trip I would pay Uber $16 for is only $2.25. Plus, in some areas, they have a paratransit taxi service that runs. They don't have it here in my town but boy do I want it. It'd get me home when I have a shift that ends at 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. Plus $2.25 beats $16 for a one way ride.
If you find yourself going to a specific destination on a regular basis I definitely recommend looking into paratransit. It's mega affordable and, quite honestly, friendlier than a cab or Uber. :)
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see what I can figure out to increase my ability to travel. :)
Though, as you may also know, we can only work with what is available to us. I know you, too, would like a bit more freedom in your ability to travel to-and-from.
Whilst I may not be in the same position as you are, asking for peoples help can feel wrong but you need to remember that close friends and people who are *willing* to help do not care how often you ask for help. They should at least know that what you have to deal with isnt easy. Im sure that if they were busy, they would say so.
Its really great to hear that even though you are going through such a thing, you still somehow find a way through it. That is extremely amazing and I hope you're proud of it because I sure am!
In the past I've had some people really use my vulnerability in needing help against me. It's quite hard to shake that ill feeling as, honestly, I can understand how burdensome it can be to have to care for an adult like a child. I need help finding things, getting places, and knowing what is going on. It's not my goal to be frustrating but I also know, if I want to get anywhere in life, I need to ask and be willing to take the risk of someone getting 'fed up' after awhile.
The trouble I had is how, in employment settings, people have gone from being supportive and helpful to telling me that I should have known they did it all out of perceived 'obligation'. This is why, at my current job, I try to always ask if it's truly alright for getting rides while offering any possible way I can to pay for services. Never again do I want someone to come back years after-the-fact to say I made them feel 'obligated'.
As for Shadow, I can see how he could be an Echo Fighter. We're already getting a lot of characters added so shadow is definitely not out of the question. Plus, in all honesty, sonic could use another character to go with his series. Maybe put shadow in and make tails an assist trophy?
Maybe once I play enough of her, I can tell you how she works such as her moves, ultimate, etcetera, if you’d like.
So you have a switch? My son got one about a year ago and has already paid for his Pre-order of smash Ultimate. He also, as a huge Metroid fan, has purchased the Ridley amiibo.
Are there any characters you are excited for in the game?
I’m really excited to play Kirby again! I know he’s been in the games more than once but he’s probably my favorite character and I’d like to see if there were any small changes made with him.
Yoshi has always been my go to. I devasted friends in Smash 64 and Melee. My sight began it's major decline by Brawl and was nearly all gone with Wii U / 3DS. However, to this day, my Yoshi amiibo I trained still beats the daylights out of some people. :)
I know Kirby's final smashes have changed between games. I wonder if it will change again for this one given how they are trying to make them quick instead of lasting?
Yoshi is a pretty good character in smash. His jump is really helpful during falls and his ultimate is pretty great if you know how to use it.
I was expecting an ultimate change for Kirby already and I do hope that’s the case. I like all his ultimates but I want to see if they can top it with this next one (if it’s new).
Well I probably won't be getting Smash Bros. Ultimate, for two reasons: I don't have a Switch and can't afford one, and I don't really like fighting games in any case. I wish I could afford a Switch so I can play the new Animal Crossing game when it comes out next year, but who knows? Maybe I'll be able to afford one then.
I'm sorry things are so hard for you -- video games really aren't made with visual impairments in mind, are they?
Do you currently play Animal Crossing: New Leaf? I liked how they made a genuine update to the game around the time that Pocket camp came out. I had hoped Pocket Camp would've been as usable to a blind user as Pokémon Go but it wasn't. Oh, well. :)
Pokémon Go is the closest game I can play now that is mainstream. I can do a lot of the activities in the game that don't involve menus.
Are you an Isabelle fan, too?
I will look forward to hearing all about Isabelle in Smash Ultimate. She'd be on my list to Master if I could see well enough to play. However I still plan to play through assistance. I can't let a chance to play as Isabelle pass me by. :)
When you complete goals, she's always there to congratulate you in the form of a disembodied face icon, so perhaps it's meant to symbolize her sending you messages over social media or something.
Lately there's a Pocket Camp First Anniversary event going on, though, so Isabelle is everywhere, getting ready for the big party, encouraging you to do the special events, and everything. I don't know how she has time for it all!
I dare say she puts Twilight Sparkle and Spike to shame when it comes to keeping things going. She doesn't do 'The Freak Out' and never seems to get too upset about being so needed.
Three cheers for Isabelle! :)
It's going to be such fun having her in Smash. I need to work on my 'blind strategy' so I can still do moves without being so prone to falling off the sides. <LoL!>
I don't know why I keep saying Trevor instead of Richter. I really loved playing his character in Symphony Of The Night. Plus his dialogue with Dracula at the start of the game is legendary. :)
If it is $300, or less, it's definitely a bargain worth taking up.
I have heard Pokémon Go relates with Let's Go Eevee / Pikachu. I look forward to seeing if that is true and how it works. :)
