The Banner Saga 2 Review

The banners have been unfurled, the world ruined and broken, and people must either band together to survive or fall. what shall you do to survive?
Banner Saga 2, taking place a week after the first game, is an indie game and part of a trilogy of games made by Stoic Entertainment. Playing as either Rook or his daughter Alette, depending on who was sacrificed at the end of first game, they must lead the caravan of survivors and clansmen to Arberrang. However later on Bolverk, leader of the Ravens mercenary group, must deliver a box to a specific place.
The two's journies are paralell like the first, but Alette's focuses on surviving, Bolverk is mostly fighting and making sure you can beat your enemies and just make it through the day. There are changes to this however. For one, clansmen can help you forage food as you walk, meaning you can harvest for food while traveling. another thing they added was giving people the ability to have two abilities when they hit a certain rank. These can allow a person, say Alette, to have three abilities that drastically alter their playstyles. also, when a stat is completely full, then you can further augment the state by adding a bonus to it. Increasing your defense lets you either upgrade it to block further damage or regain a piece of defense slowly.
The world also gets expanded on while you travel, and the new skald class exemplifies this. skalds, the bards of the game and world, can have a passive buff, when a enemy dies in their presence, they give all fighters extra willpower to keep going. Another benefit is that training camps can now be used to train, allowing you to gain renown for completing challenges. Renown is important, as you can level up your heroes to rank 10, giving them access to further powers.
Like the first game, choices will carry weight, and soemtimes a choice from an early point in the game will positively help you, or negatively help you. choose wisely.
The game also helps throw some curveballs and plot twists in the game and story that changes the dynamic of everything, several the entire world over. I had a blast playing and now i intend to finish the game fully with 3.
