Back Home and powered up

Hello all, I hope people are staying safe during these trying times.
The 'Back Home':
Well, unknown to most people, I had to go back home to Newfoundland for a few weeks after hearing my mom was recently put into the dementia wing of the elder home and we fear she will be there for the rest of her life. For all the sad emotion surrounding this event, she seems...happy? to be there. Always a smile when I come to visit but she never uses my name and the last time I talked to her on the phone, she thought I was one of my brothers. So there's that.
I spent the last few weeks at home helping dad fix up the house and throw out old items. It was an interesting task, digging through the history of my family, old schoolbooks, old magazines and some old technologies that I was surprised they kept all this time. One of the oldest items I found was a 1963 book owned by my mother. It was a bittersweet experience. I did draw her some art, which she seemed to enjoy. It was a simple but bittersweet picture to match the situation.
All in all, I'm...okay...with how I left home. the house is fixed up (but still some to go) dad seems to be okay. And mom...seems happy and is being well taken care of. So while not the perfect situation, it something I can deal with for now.
The 'Powered up":
So I return home on Saturday to find that a friday tornado had severely damaged the power station and destroyed many homes and power poles. So after I land in the airport, all streets were dark on the way home and was interesting to walk through the neighborhood in total darkness. I actually have a light saber at home that I dusted off and used as a light source. (I really wanted to take it out to thew park outside and run around with a glowing saber in a pitch black city.)
Well, the lights in my section of the city came on last night so that idea was a wash.
But with the power back on I can finally post some art and commissions for you guys. Thanks for hanging in there and being patient. Art is on it's way! ;D

I am told by a mutual friend that a large area, including where you live now, really got smacked hard by the side-bar of the gigantic mess of a storm that stomped its way across the Eastern Seaboard of the States like Doomsday in Metropolis these past couple of weeks, and a decent bit of it got us here in Toronto as well; a lot of trees came down, branches all over the place. We lucked out in the area of the GTA I'm in and didn't lose power at all; which kind of messed with my head with how many other parts of the city got the cutter on their power feed. (Turned my computer off anyway once the wind started picking up, because it could've gone either way if luck had had a different thought on the matter.)
Again, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your Mum, although if small comfort, I'm glad she's somewhere where the folks working and where she will be living from now on will try their best to make her comfortable. You and yours are in my prayers, and sending as much positive finessed thought your way!

And running around in a pitch black city with a light saber? Heck yeah!

The lightsaber thing does sound kinda badass! Almost a shame you couldn't test it out properly.
Yeah, the Merrivale Power station got smacked dead on by the tornado on Friday. My place was largely spared (apart from a $200 lawn furniture set that got picked up and smashed leaving tiny frags of broken glass all over the back) and I saw the lights coming back in Barrhaven south of you coming back on last night when I was driving one of the guys from my D&D game home.
Glad your place isnt wrecked though. I didnt think you got tornados that far north.
But man you should've totally done that with the lightsaber. XD Break out you jedi skills.
Sad to hear about your mum. Dementia is terrible, and I can certainly relate to the sorting through the old family items. I'm still sorting some. Glad your interactions were positive, and well, I suggest calling her more frequently even if she doesn't remember exactly who you are.
You also might want to look into the Alzheimer's society for a support group, classes regarding the disease, and so on. It helps cope a little.
That way you can have Weather Alerts no matter where you are
It's over max, I have the hi ground.
.. you just hang in there, and do what you gotta, ok? Take care of yourself, and whomever else ya have to. That's what matters most.
...but Dementia? Hoo boy! I'm so sorry to hear that Max.
Keep the faith, friend!
