A comic that isn't primarily porn or only has pornographic content incidentally and is broken into chapters that make up books where each "book" can be it's own complete story arc so that it doesn't end up like a web comic with no end and stagnant characters. if the setting and characters are cool and interesting enough I might not just pledge to read but I might also be interested in paying for a physical collection of this hypothetical comic.

... the porn was front and center, golden age hollywood isn't terribly interesting (though it's pretty to look at), and while Theo was good fap bait the only thing that jumps to mind without thinking too hard about him is pity. And semen, so much semen... Though for me, personally, if you want to part me from some of my hard earned cash for a comic it has to be more valuable to me as entertainment than I have for my money. That means a protagonist that me, as a reader, can root for and feel more than two emotions for, a setting and plot with nuance and depth that makes me think about it almost like it is its own character with its own personality. Put that together, add a hint of homoeroticism and I'll want physical copies for my book shelf.

tl;dr write longer stories in more interesting places with characters you can feel more than one or two things for and have those characters do more than just get wet (but lets keep it real, getting wet is cool too)

that's a really tall order considering that from the feedback ive gotten from people on Relations ive mostly accomplished what you asked for, and it the physical copy is over 100 pages so if you want a longer comic than that on patreon that's got minimal porn in it, i think you've come to the wrong guy. I know where my strengths are.

I personally don't really think there's enough incentive to pledge. It's early access to pieces and exclusive sketches and WIPs.

Stuff that would make me want to pledge is exclusive completed artwork, our sonas appearing in your comics as cameos, discounts on commissions, being able to commission works with some of your characters, maybe a chance at/guaranteed monthly coloured sketches/artwork, etc.

This is, of course, just my opinion, but there needs to be more.

Completed artwork, totally reasonable. pinups and other exclusive art would be something im excited to do.

Cameos in comics, most likely not gonna happen because people tend to have...exotic designs that dont fit the worlds my comics occupy. I feel like that would cheapen the work.

Discounts on commissions, thats a hard no. I have to make a living, paying less than $10 to get a big chunk off a commission that costs over $100 is not financially doable.

Commissioning works with my characters is already allowed, so that's a relief

For the discounts on artworks, I wasn't talking about a huge chunk off of discount prices.

For example, AlienSymbol (who I'm a Patron of) does 10€ off of commissions in his 20€ tier. So he's making a lot of money off of me in the long run since I don't actually commission him often. But the other things I get from him is a coloured sketch the first time I pledge the tier and monthly art that you'll never be able to see again past that month.

Most of the reasons why I go to Patreon for some artists is because of the exclusive art I could never get anywhere else. I really like your art, so it would kinda incentivize me to become a Patron for art we'll never see otherwise, or at least it being cheaper to become a Patron for art that comes out on a Gumroad later.

I dont really get why you would pledge to get discounts on something there's no guarantee you'll buy, to me thats asking way too much of the average person. I dont want to involve commissions with my patreon.

That wasn't the only thing that he's offering, though. It's also exclusive art and a colour sketch you get when you first pledge to that tier, and all previous tier rewards, like private stream access, private doddle access, etc.

But I digress. You're not including your commissions into the rewards and that's fine. No problem.

I love your art and I enjoy it as a bystander at the moment (since I am never prepared when you do open and I'm sad that I'm not able to get art from you that opening), but if you do introduce more incentives, I wouldn't be shocked if I do end up on your Patreon.

Possibly new tiers. Maybe doing like a single full pic of a character people can vote for. Whether it be in the comics universe or outside of it. Barring OCs of course.

Or even start up a Discord server, get people meeting each other who can't always visit the streams.

I'm usually a cheap mofo who keeps ALL who wouldn't pledge a dime even he really really wanted to buuuut recently I bought a shirt from nekojishi and an octoberfest pin from kickstarter a while back. I don't know how much work this would be but you could sell merch like a wallpaper or a dakimura of one of your OCs (like Theo). Pledging could give you a discount to the merch or something. Maybe you could make a youtube channel where you post your streams or make videos of how you draw your stuff.

I know Rhagan stopped posting his comic on FA cuz of U-18chan posting his work there so now its Patreon. You could just not post any pages for free and make it Patreon exclusive (I am so screwing myself over saying that xD) as well as putting the commissions behind a paywall. Basically you could be the scum of the earth lol.

You are a wonderfully talented artist but I forget you have a patreon, you might consider regularly posting ads specifically for it. Personally, I like fairly short comics (10 pages?) that are almost entirely pornographic, so the panels are really focused on the raw details of fantasized sexual activity. Offer them as exclusive and Hi-Res, and I would seriously consider pledging. I also really appreciate your consideration of commissions outside a paywall and your exclusive use of natural color palettes.

I patronize artists whose work tends to cater to my tastes, when all is said and done. I have a terrible track record for actually taking advantage of the rewards for people I actually pledge, but, what usually draws me in initially is:

1) Seeing different stages of a piece of art (outline, sketch, lineart, flat color, shading stages)
2) Access to drawing streams, especially if there's a chance for requests being done (even just sketchy 5-minute ones)
3) Ability to influence the artist's subject matter in any way (suggestion boxes, polls, lottery requests, etc)

Well i do the first 2 already, the other stuff are things im definitely interested in!

Honestly it's hard to say what would encourage people. Polls for certain characters or themes is a good idea, but I'm a hard no on making artwork exclusive; it's something I find distasteful and don't want to support

To be honest that's hardly any better. A month is just about tolerable but the whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth

I mean i would find locking commissions behind a paywall bad, but its not like i stop posting her forever and ONLY post on patreon. it may leave a sour taste in your mouth but without an incentive to pledge there's not much choice for artists than to have exclusive things for their patrons.

There are other incentives, as mentioned here. The question is whether this will actually cause people to pledge - maybe it will, but maybe it won't. Either way, 6 months is very unreasonable in my eyes. I hope if you do go ahead with it you actually keep a close eye and see how many Patrons it actually brings in; I'm afraid I won't be one of them

For me it's just personal finances. A commission discount (5 or 10%) would be enticing.
