See? It feels a lot, and I mean a lot more niche than one might expect.

To be fair, there's not a lot of options for customization. There's human, Hylian, River Zora, Sea Zora, Goron, Kokiri, Gerudo, Rito... Deku, if you want to stretch it a bit... Then there's the enemy races... But in Pokémon. there's 151 species within the first games alone! So many choices, and such riches aplenty!

I will concede that Pokemon just simply gives way more options, but you'd think you'd see at least one or two float around here and there from the other universes. But alas, that's almost never the case.

Maybe if it was easier to create OCs... You know, like taking Sonic the Hedgehog and throwing him at a rainbow before giving him an emo backstory? There's a lot of those flying around. None of them really serious, mind, the serious fans are more creative than that...

I agree with Ruboo. making a character in those games is not as easy. and not but options alone. I think it's also the concrete lore. it has such a specific story line, Link is always the most important character and the story always revolves around him. I feel it makes designing a character in the world feels like a lack luster tack

The story of the games should not really be a discouragement to make your own mark in the form of your own character. Even if the story revolved around just Link, it doesn’t mean that other characters or NPCs are completely unimportant. You have the champions in BOTW as the best example I can think of in the moment, with one the earliest examples (and the only example of a playable character that isn’t just some form of Link) being from Majora’s Mask.

Really, each race do have their own significance in the world, their own role. We just have to willinglypay attention to those stories, which can feel better than having it crammed down your throat and steal attention.
