Happy Diwali, everyone!!

All we are and all we seem...
today marks the day after the midterm elections, and with the democrats gaining control of the House of Representatives, along with a substantial number of historic new achievements for our nation (including the first ever openly gay governer, the first ever Somali-American congresswoman, the first ever Native American senator, and the youngest woman in congress, just to name a few), I think it is even more fitting that today is also Diwali, the festival of light.
Happy Diwali to everyone. this holiday (Which happens to fall on a New Moon this year, how thematic) represents the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness. we pray to goddess Laxmi for prosperity at this time:
Asato ma sat gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
martayor ma amratam gamaya
om shanti, shanti, shantihi.
from untruth lead us to truth
from darkness lead us to light
from death lead us to immortality
om peace, peace, peace.

I wish I could favourite journals. This is beautiful. I had completely forgotten it is Diwali - we used to celebrate it in my high school - so seeing this has brought back some very fond memories. Thank you.

I'm glad to brighten your day. truth be told, I had forgotten it was Diwali too, until I woke up this morning and, on a whim, decided to check my calendar. finding out that it's a New Moon, and Diwali today, of all days, made me feel alot more hopeful. that's why I wrot ethis journal today.
