well in your case i think it would be worth a try..if ya offer something for patrons only it could work...

what you have to expect that people start to supported you but when the money i about to get in the jump up so they don´t have to pay...
so only what you get on the end of the month is the real money..not what the patron website says over the month.

Its a firm point. What i would be sharing would be full pics (full resolution), and some sketches that really never made it to FA.

sounds good...the sketche could be the 5$ tier and the rest higher tier prices..etc...

Honestly, since you're one of the more well-known macro artists, you'll probably have better luck at it than other artists. I would certainly become a patron. I suppose the question is what would you be willing to do at different patron levels?

Its a good question. Regardless, I'm against charging people just to see my works. I don't find it quite right excluding others.

The idea is to continue sharing sketches & full colour pics on FA. The plus side on Patreon... or the exclusivity would be seeing progressive developments and a suggestion box, as well as high resolution works... and well, any help from supporters is a always appreciated.

True that. However i think proving weekly / monthly updates is less pressure that accepting individual commissions.

I kid, but what you need to know is not many patreons work without certain rewards for your patreons... the problem is, said rewards are often drawings, drawings you could have done as commissions for a lot pricer without the same level of pressure a patreon put on your shoulder (frequents updates, etc.)

To be fair (and like said starryaqua earlier) you're one of the top tier macro artist, so chances are you can get away with simple things as rewards... You know, the ones who don't imply much dedication from you, like giving them access to a discord, polls for the next drawing, etc

In the end, it will vastly depend on how active is your community!

(don't expect the patreon to burst from the start tho, some people will wait to see how the patreon change things before subbing or not, it will take time and dedication and lots of updates )

If you do decide to do it, I'd think about using the pay up front setting if you can. You would probably have to set up some content first, and it would probably commit you to making content monthly because it seems you can't disable the setting once it's enabled. But this would stop people from pledging, gaining access, and then removing their pledge before they have to pay at the end of the month.

As someone that already runs a Patreon, I'd be glad to offer some insights.

Depending on what you plan to do with it, you have a few different charging options. 2 of them are basically charing Patrons at the end or the start of a month for their subscription. This happens ever month depending on what you have chosen, patreon will charge people.

There is a third option, that's basically charging patrons per-upload. You can use that if you plan on just doing a few Patreon exclusive big pieces and post them once in a while. Usually this option allows for cheaper tiers as it's not a monthly thing but on a per-creation basis.


All that said, it's best that you do offer something to those who pledge higher than $1 per month, if you go with a monthly plan, like streams, exclusives etc.
It's a commitment you'll have to make and it might be some time before it kicks off and when it does, the more people will gather. It all depends on if you're willing to do deal with the stress of having to present something every month.

Im still undecided. Pressure is not for me.. this is quite spontaneous since I'm a bit of a drawing spree right now.

You can always set it up as a monthly tip jar, with just one tier of 1$ and just upload any rough drafts / sketches that don't make it to FA there realy for anyone that just wants to show their support. Pledges can also be custom set by patrons on an individual basis, so if anyone wants to donate more than 1$ a month, they can still do that and it will keep the pressure off your head. Just make sure you come off cleanly about it being mostly a tip jar! I don't think there's a possibility for hurt feelings that way.

If you want to go deeper with it, then you'd probably have to provide some sort of reward that's more than just drafts that don't make it to completion. It's all up to you c:

Admittedly I can only speak as a fan of yours, not an artist, but I can talk a little about what some artists have done that turned me off supporting them on Patreon - mostly stuff like completely neglecting non-Patreon posting or pushing it too hard (think making the majority of posts Patreon exclusive or the non-Patreon version having an excessively small resolution etc.). I understand why they do it, and I can only speak for myself, but it does push me away.

Perhaps consider something like Patreons getting an image earlier than everyone else rather than a strict exclusive/non-exclusive boundary? Unfortunately I can’t tell you how that works out in terms of cash flow (ask artists about that) but I feel like it’s a better way of rewarding patrons without leaving folks who can’t support the artist financially out in the cold.

The idea is not to completely break off from posting on FA. That will continue, though on Patreon ill be sharing the full resolution images, along with any WIPs that I've been working on.

Just do the standard pay for early access and sketch stuff and release things 2-3weeks after patreon posts here and I think it would fit great in your work flow.
