Just the HD gone? If the rest of the PC is sound, another HD shouldn't be too expensive, depending on the size you need.

Well last year my graphics card died, and i had to replace it. and the computer itself has been making funny noises for awhile (its over 5 years old. and some parts are even older)
It bluescreened and the motherboard couldnt find the harddrive, and its not just the fact of replacing it, it would be like the past 2 years of art would be gone, i havent backed up my art in awhile (doing it now, 99gb downloading right now lol)

funny noises are usually cooling fans getting too much dust on them and becoming unbalanced. It can also be noises from a HD if it's failing, as you say.

Bluescreen plus disappearing HD points to probably bad sectors on the drive. Not much to be done there, other than what you're already doing. Might want to get a can of compressed air and try blowing out the dust from the innards of the case. Just need to pop the cover open and give it a good shot from the air can, don't need to touch anything inside. Make sure you've got good ventilation in the room, this WILL create one heckuva dust cloud.

Yeah I cleaned it out when it started and since, and it hasnt fixed the problem ( but also you never know how much dust your tower collects until you clean it lol)

...not to rub it in, but the 3DS I'm using right now turned 7 years old 8 days ago and is still going strong. Kinda strange how this little thing is outliving a big, powerful PC, isn't it?

What kinda sounds is it making? A quiet ticking? A constant regular rattle or whine? a faint high pitched whine?

idk if you ever had a game in a console start making a weird noise because its not sitting right inside? it sounds kinda like that but constantly, im sure i need to replace its fans, but i also have to replace parts inside

So more of a constant rattle then? Give a good clean while powered down, s3 if your brother can help apply new thermal paste, and replace the hard drive before it fails. Once you're able to at least use your PC again, run benchmarks and compare with similar computer builds to see if one part or another is noticeably slower, might indicate if other hardware is failing.

are you sure your psu was giving your computer enough juice? because if your parts breakdown one by one like that it could be a sign that a psu power was either not enough or its breaking down. either or will fry your computer components. D:
you might also be getting bad buzz from your outlet and that is fucking with ur parts. (i hope u got ur computer on a good power surge protector)
your hdd needs to be replaced asap if its making that noise but after you do all that check to make sure your ram is still functioning and not fried. if ur ram is bad it might be whats causing ur motherboard to not recognize ur hdd

at this point its probably best to just start from scratch again, thank you for the insight!
