Well if you like camping, evergreen forests, mountains, and outdoor shenanigans take a peek at https://www.camppaw.org/ . They haven't opened for 2019 registration yet, but they will.
There's Mephit in Memphis over labor day weekend, don't know how big it is.
In, I think, April, there's Motor City Fur Con in Detroit, it's 18+ and in the 1500 attendee range.
If you want small and near me and Chicago, there's the Great Lakes Fur Con in Grand Rapids, Memorial day weekend, with about 300 people. They canceled last year on short notice but I think this year they're solvent.
The only one I plan to hit, though, is Furnal Equinox. That's mid March in Toronto with 2200 or so. It's... it feels the way MFF once did in terms of size. Hopefully I'll see you there!
I'd recommend Fur-Eh in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada! We had less than 800 attended last year, but it's always a blast. The hotel is super accommodating and the event is top notch!
I maybe biased since it's in my home town, but I've never had a bad time!
I cannot in good conscience recommend coming to Phoenix in July for any reason, but Itty Bitty Fur Con is near and dear to my heart. First con I ever attended, back in 2016 when it was just a one-day thing at a banquet hall!
We also have a brand new con, Painted Desert Fur Con, happening at the beginning of February, no idea what that's going to be like on the tail of FC but I have high hopes!
