I'm currently watching "A Few Good Men", (it's a courtroom drama involving some Marines that were accused of murder due to their applying a "Code Red" hazing ritual on an underperforming cadet that accidentally killed him) and thinking that old school Marines who watch the film were absolutely appalled. The "Code Red" hazing rituals may have been rough, but at least it turned "screw ups" into spit and polish, "squared away" Marines that did their roles properly. Nowadays a "Gunny" (drill instructor) can't even touch a marine recruit much less allow him to be hazed and shamed into improving his performance.
