Thoughts (Commissioners)
Holding off a little bit to put the refund form up this weekend or early next week.
Taking care of some last minute issues and pretty hefty issue with Tumblr and now having to collect/save some posts on multiple blogs due to new NSFW policy.
It's been a dumb two weeks overall.
I have some options I wanted to get more input on considering I want to revise things to be fairer for those who commissioned, waited an extensively long period of time and got nothing.
I'm talking those who waited a Year+ and especially those who haven't even received a single wip for their piece(s)
Had time to cool off a bit, received some concern about what I felt was best for the long-term and had some time to think about it more.
There are commissioners who straight up remained patient and stuck around throughout a lot of my family matters/family financial discourse for the last several years.
Though I can't reasonably keep doing as I have before with catching up on bills and backlog all at the same time given how extensive the list has become even after finishing and decreasing the amount owed.
There's a lot I'm still fixing in general, I'm just not THAT fast and burning out because of it causes more harm than good.
I don't want to shaft those who waited that entire period for art just because I wasn't fast enough to get everything together or because a few commissioners caused more issues/discourse.
I have a few options I want to consider and more likely will still go through with. (I just want to be sure these are are the right ones.)
But ideally, if there's an alternative that I haven't considered and you feel would be a better fit based on what I ALREADY do for a living to equally refund/compensate all parties involved tell me something.
(It can be here or through notes. I don't mind)
The options given, that would be completely up to you as a commissioner are:
- [Full Refund] + [Freebie]
- Once I'm caught up with refunds and If the refund wasn't requested. As compensation, I will do my best to find a time and place to put together a freebie stream for those who were given refunds.
- Given how much I still have left to do and I don't want to give a date for freebies without being 100% sure. I'd estimate the start of spring sounds ideal! If I can manage anything sooner, I will do just that.
- Not entirely sure what to do for those who already requested a refund. (because there is a chunk who were patient, have been reasonable and great to work with. I'll figure out that one at another time.)
- [Credit]
- Any amount paid thus far can be used to pay/purchase any future Sketches, YCHS, Adopts, Comics, Custom Designs, but not including emergency commissions.
- Credit gives you first priority / first call over newer commissioners.
- Credit won't be taken into account until January 2019!
What I can currently manage/plan:
- Refund list refunded by the end of February or sooner! (Mentioned before with the number of refunds, everything will be spread out. With 1/3 of the list or more being refunded per month until finished.)
- Refund order: Priority Commissions -> Older Commissions -> Newer Commissions
- Priority is for those who filled out refund forms early during August - October
What's on my plate:
-Finishing up 2018 commissions and any other commissions I felt were close enough to completion. The amount owed for this year is far smaller and small enough that in January I'll have a proper queue list up and running.
(This does not include your commission If you requested a refund beforehand or I contacted you to provide a refund)

You´re a super great an awesome artist! don't be so harsh with yourself, i can understand that there are a lot of " bad commissioners" who wants a very difficult work for "yesterday" and they are always complaining about the time, and when you made the commission, they just can´t stand quiet and happy, they ask about some "details" that they´re not there etc, and yet they gave you all the reference pics.
I see you´re doing a list of options for those kind of commissioners.
I´m going to give you and advice that you never asked me, never take a commission if the commissioner is not agree with your terms and rules, because they have the terrible manner of mistake your good will and nice behavior with being "idiot".
Don´t let them see your effort as nothing.
Btw i love your works, you´re so inspirational
This isn't exactly the best place or time for it though. (I may be reading it incorrectly, my apologies if I am!)
I'm definitely gonna be stricter with my terms and conditions for future commissions. (Though a chunk of the commissioners causing issues wasn't in the wrong/didn't entirely go against my rules.)
I am ideally looking for input or alternate solutions from those who actually have personally worked with me before, aware of the situation or overall followed what I've done over the course of the last several years with commissions.
You´ve a great art skills and i´m sure a lot of people will love to have a pic done by you, never lose faith in yourself
Your commission still falls under 2018, so I'm still looking forward to it myself and having a queue list up for commisions still in progress by January!
Like many more people, I’m happy to wait. I haven’t been waiting as long as others but unless you state it’s easier for you to refund that piece, I’m just going to sit back and chill. Your work is definitely worth it.
There doesn't seem to be any good alternatives given what made Tumblr so great (at least for my own purposes) many places don't exactly do identically or better.
- image sets (pixiv does! but the censorship part is a pain. given I do 30+ images a month. that would just slow things down.)
- Tags for anything/everything, That would keep searches contained the blog when clicked. (Great if you have a lot of characters, do a lot of commissions or buy a lot of commissioners)
- Reshaping the appearance of a blog to suit a gallery or a comic website.
- The ease of sharing, boosting things or people who created content you liked.
- The ability to maintain multiple accounts dedicated to entirely different things.
- The ability to strongly filter out content or certain posts based on post type.
- A pretty massive platform for both NSFW + SFW that made it such a large place/ocean to gather your ideal audience.
Spoke with a few people about considering to work with/pay others to help create a site so I can host my own content.
An official page/base/hub, so at the very least I have a main place to upload ALL my content outside of main social platforms. But that isn't exactly the problem.
Please just know you are amazing, people are surely patient with your calibre of work. If they aren't, I'll bite them!
If your name is listed on the refund list but you would like to opt for credit instead there will be a new form specifically for the list so that anyone can change their minds if they would want credit instead or vise-versa!
(Hope that helps!)
Refunding and moving forward is ideally what I wanted to push forward with and the point I tried to make in my last journal / Tumblr recently.
(Even giving a number difference as to WHY it would be better)
But was given concerned remarks that I was shafting others who waited. Though not wrong, wasn't my intention. I made it pretty clear after throwing in the towel that maintaining a backlog while still having to keep myself afloat was no longer a reasonable option, considering it would just back up more people as it has already, I'm not fast enough and burn out plenty doing that throughout the majority of 2018. Clearing the backlog was more of a concern.
- Doing what's best for the long-term and the majority (refund and moving on. Try to do better overall. Using the schedule and system I use currently.)
- Refund but provide some form of compensation when I could manage to. Doesn't change the backlog situation, just makes it the same situation without money involved.
The responses have been a rather mixed coin flip. (giving the options and leaving it to the commissioner seem fairer. Even though I personally would like to refund so there's far less to concentrate on, not falling behind and finish the remainder of my plate.)
I do still make enough to where I can still pay rent and handle bills just fine so handling Priority/Credit commissioners first or alongside newer commissions would be alright.
(They will be considered as new commissions, streamed and/or worked on just like current commissions)
It would take to February or sooner to refund the entire list.
(I say sooner because if credit is taken by more commissioners than expected. The refund list could be done by January instead.)
