I seriously get so sick and disgusted when watching, because the homes almost always look way worse after it's done.

Just now was the worst offender I can remember. A beautiful European style mansion, lots of brick, stone, wood and tile, columns and color and drapery...and they're planning on turning it into a minimalist, stainless steel, granite countertops and carpet, white, grey and beige only house, getting rid of all the flair and culture. All because it's "mishmashed" and "so not modern".

It's not wrong to make a house have more modern ways of doing things (new electric cords or sockets or replacing worn out walls and colors with a new one but the same color), but I sort of feel sickened by complete renovations, especially when it's something beautiful...

Beauty is something I highly value, perhaps, is why it offends me so much. I have nothing against minimalism and modern designs, but they should never triumph against the grandiose, the beautiful, the ornate, the vigorous, the regal. One buying such a house or owning such an item should be grateful for its nature, should be happy that it elevates their status. But instead so often these precious things are defaced, gutted and whitewashed into something that is clearly inferior.
