My favorite 80s movie is probably Red Sonja.

Horrible acting, outstanding music, cheap special effects and a laughable plot.

Something about that movie makes it one of my favorites. Maybe the music alone redeems it.

If you can stomach cheesy comedies (or movies that try WAY too hard to be comedies), might I suggest "Hamburger: The Motion Picture".

Disney's The Black Cauldron (1985) an animated feature that no one at the Disney Studio talk about anymore because it bombed badly and it's such a mess !

My favorite Friday the 13th copycats from the 80's would be My Bloody Valentine (the original) and The Burning. Sleepaway Camp is also a good one if you can find it.

As far as Family Friendly fare - The Neverending Story, The Goonies and The Last Unicorn are my go-to movies. But if you want more camp-cult hits, I suggest Monster Squad, Cloak and Dagger, or Explorers.

We saw Reanimator for the first time this past Halloween, was pretty insane but fun!

It's not from the 80s, but it is really good. "The Haunting" from 1963. lt's a psychological thriller that is really well done and scares the pants off of you without a bunch of cheap, crappy, poorly made monsters.

I don't see it here but Night of the Creeps is a fun one! :)

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is my favorite 80's cult film. I'm still waiting for Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.

However, the 80s movie I watched the most as a kid is Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. I'm pretty sure I wore the library's tape out.

Ok, so here are some suggestions.
- Chopping Mall. Great cheesy robot fun
- Deathstalker 2. Very cheap sword and sorcery movie but hilarious. (Re-uses some of the same score as Chopping Mall!)
- Night of the Comet. A classic if you haven’t seen it yet.
- Terrorvision. A movie about a slimy space alien that comes from the TV set.
- The 80s remake of the Blob is pretty fun!
- Brain Damage and Frankenhooker - both are from the same director, crazy gory fun.
- Little Monsters with Fred Savage if you haven’t seen it.
- Maniac Cop 1 and 2 are fun slashers.
- Howling 2, hilariously bad werewolf movie
- From Beyond, same director and crew as Re-animator, just as fun.

Oh, also I highly recommend The Prowler and Intruder, if you want slasher fun!

Krull. Lord of the Rings meets The Dirty Dozen. The entire Police Academy series. I forget if this is 80's or not but a kids fantasy movie called "Storybook" I remember this one because it featured Star Trek's James Doohan and a talking kangaroo; basically a guy in a pretty realistic fursuit.

Not sure it's an 80's movie, but cheesey just the same, Funland, with David L Lander

How about "One Crazy Summer?" Even though it's mostly live-action it's got a few animated segments (one of the lead characters is a cartoonist), and there's a fun bit where Bobcat Goldthwait's character gets stuck in a full rubber Godzilla suit, and hilarity ensues!

I saw this in the theater and laughed myself sick over the cartoon bits!

OMG I saw this too. I remember the toon rhino in the animated segments.

This is a great movie and very underappreciated.

How about Back to the Future from 1985? Or perhaps the "My Pet Monster" movie from 1986?

In terms of 80s low budget slashers, I'd recommended "Basket Case" it's strange, gory and despite reeking of low budget, actually makes the most of what it has, I could best describe it as a slock film, (sloppy shock)

In terms of 80s films In general, I'd recommend stuff like The Blues Brothers, Twins and Airplanes. I myself have been in a big 80s comedy mood

the best horror movie from the 80s is and will always be Poltergeist. That movie still scares the shit out of me.

The Boogey Man, Happy Birthday To Me, Night Warning (featuring a very young Bill Paxton), Dead and Buried, Return of the Living Dead (parts one and two), The Boogens, Near Dark (another one with Bill Paxton and two other actors from "Aliens"), The Funhouse, A Stranger Is Watching, The Devonsville Terror to name some.
