Remember the older days of gaming? When you could pick up demo disks or and try before you buy? Giving you maybe the tutorial missions, or a little bit of the game? Gamefacts or what ever had CDs with up coming games to try. That was quality control. Some say that playing a beta for free is the same thing. I disagree. Because that isn't the finished game. It's a beta test. Designed to allow players to offer feedback and critique the game. Companies now adays almost never offer a demo of games anymore and instead charge us for the full game to play the betas. It's not games themselves that are getting worse, after all, being on a deadline sucks. It's the marketing and business practices like this.
