I need some help... And a new radiator.

I need some help from my watchers... My 1991 Ford Tempo overheated before I got very far when I was going to go take my license test. I took it to a radiator repair shop (very well trusted and has been in buisness for 30 years), and the mechanic told me that it's most likely not the thermostat like I thought, but it could be a clog in the radiator. The fix? Flush out the system, and replace the radiator. Without replacing the radiator, the same buildup will return. It also still has the original hoses, which need replacing.
The verdict? It'll cost around $600.
My real trouble is that I need to be at oreientation for my college out of state on Aug. 31st and Sep. 1st, so I need my car to be running and ready by then.
