it's that time of year we (meskwaki/sauk/kickapoo and several other algonquin speaking nations) traditionally refer to as chahkimahkolucesohi (tcägima'kolücesöhi - time when old she bear makes the young stay out for a while so as to make it/them endure the cold) ...or simply, chahki mahkwa (little bear)

of course, this saying probably don't work so well in the southern hemisphere as you are heading into the middle of summer there - so, menwikenwi ashkikawahîne! (happy/it is good - new year)
