Twitter?
I'm considering creating a Twitter account to serve as a sort of secondary gallery now that tumblr has officially shit the bed. It seems to be the best alternative from what I can gather, although I have concerns that Twitter will just pull the same shenanigans in the coming future and ban all porn too. To those in the know, what do you think of Twitter as a place to host a gallery? Structure wise it seems very similar to tumblr, but I guess i'd just like a second opinion before I start going any further.
Also; regarding Newgrounds tbh I can't see that being a place that will offer any permanent success. They're riding a wave at the moment, but it probably won't last so I don't have much interest in setting up shop over there. Plus I think its layout is really ugly so there's that too.

Twitter is hard to find stuff on, but can be nice to help spread your influence a bit.
Twitter is the absolutely most awful choice for an artist to move to from a commissioner's perspective.
The timeline system makes it impossible to keep up with commission openings if you ever follow more than ten accounts, and if people want to watch you for your art then flooding them with updates of how your dog is having a good poop and dashing in your top hundred favourite memes will turn them away. It's impossible to stay up to date on artwork and open commission slots if they are absolutely buried in posts that have nothing to do with that. And then comes stuff like curiouscat where artists enjoy answering dozens of questions regarding their characters at a time to ensure their actual artwork and commission openings appear only after five minutes of continuous scrolling down.
You may gain more followers on twitter than on FA, but that is purely because of the broader userbase installment. It is not reflective of how many people a) keep up with your content b) are actually interested in your content and c) want to (or even can) commission you.
Twitter is a great way for getting in contact with your fans outside of commissions and art. For art and commissions, it is an incredibly inconvenient platform. Keep that in mind, and clearly declare what your twitter -is for- and keep to that.
I'd also say there's a higher chance of attracting negative attention, should you draw/say the wrong thing.
With that in mind, I do use Twitter, G+, Gab, other places to announce I've put new art up and link to my archives here. In that sense, it duplicates and fulfills what you were using Tumblr for by giving you exposure, and a place you can curate things in a way they can be easily browsed.
Twitter is not the optimal for commissioner but it does work well to show off your works and stuff, and even connect with followers. But don't expect to sell there.
I'm still exploring how Newgrounds work, so whatever I learn from there I'll let you know if you want.
So far I'm happy with how tidy the place is, the amount of media types it allows you to upload and how universal it is. The only con i saw for now is that for your artwork to be shown in the forums and in the main art page, you have to be Scouted by another artist, but by asking in the forums and showing two pieces of art from you, you get that easily
silent furry minority: if it doesn't show up on FA InkBunny or e621 I won't be looking out for it.
Theres postybird or whatever its called, but to anyone who goes straight Twitter/SocialMedia I don't lookout for them anymore.
(Some of what people above complain/warn of, I find as the positive, or have the opposite of the warned negative.)
Definitely not a good use for a proper gallery. There's no real way of back-searching, unless you make a particular, unique hashtag and tag all your art posts with it.
For commissions, I find are easier to see. I check FA like, every couple days.. I check twitter every couple minutes, sometimes. Also, you can always make a 'pinned' message on twitter, stating commission status, or whatever. (People can always set it to alert their phone every time particular people make posts, like if you're waiting for a specific artist to open for commissions)
It's a really good way to consume art, and spread it around. It's real easy to say "Hey, I like this. I should show my friends." without a lot of effort. Might help gain a bigger following. Could just start posting back-art, a couple a day. (I've seen several Tumblr artists doing this, since the purge. Posting ~5 pieces of older art a day.)
Can talk about your real life if you'd like, or create separate accounts for art, and for personal use. I personally don't mind hearing about someone's car troubles, or how a model is coming along.
InkBunny isn't worth your time unless you do cub art, end of story, lol.
