My Thoughts on the Recent Activision-Bungie split

Welcome to your doom!
So apparently, Activision has just split up with Bungie but Bungie gets to keep the rights to Destiny 1 and 2. After eight years, the contract that bound them together has been destroyed and now the sky's the limit with the series. There are many people who are saying this is a step in the right direction that is something worth celebrating since Activision is clearly the evil one putting poor Bungie under their thumb. There'd been talk about cancelling the game, in fact, when it wasn't meeting sales with Forsaken.
I would consider praising this news after the possible foreshadowing of the game getting shut down, but I have no idea which way the fans will jump over the news. They riot over entitlement and what they view as injustice towards gaming one moment and will then do a one eighty and praise games over the exact same things the next. Kind of an interesting contradiction, I'd say, but I'll get back to that in a minute.
I've been playing Destiny since Rise of Iron came out and have been through two clans and seen a lot of raiding. With my current lifestyle, though, I can't always be on forever and it requires a lot of time and grinding to be able to get shit done and feel a sense of satisfaction. My family and new obligations simply just takes that much priority. I have a window of time currently where I can freely binge on the game as often as I want. Yet I haven't. Instead, I've been more interested in grinding on the Division and being happy. Yes, happy. Remember when we were allowed to enjoy a hobby and not treat it like a dysfunctional relationship?
Anyway, let's get to the point. I recently had a falling out with the clan I was a part of with
thronezwei and
manakoro and vowed that I was never going to come back to the game unless I was given a really good offer. That came to me with the joining of a clan of raiders who I happen to like a lot and they're the reason that I came back at all. But despite that, you wanna know why I have a hard time playing Destiny 2 right now, even with the extra time on my hands? You wanna know why I left that clan I joined for my friend's sake? And you wanna know why I nearly left the game forever?
Because the community that populates the Destiny 1 and 2 servers are the fucking worst! There is no sense of unity at all with the Destiny community. It's a joke. They do nothing but complain and they can't even agree on what it is they're supposed to be complaining about, if there ever was anything to complain about at all. They hate themselves and each other, and it shows with how they treat one another horribly over what is supposed to be a group effort. They express nothing but buyer's remorse, they make it everyone else's problem and all the more miserable for it, yet they keep putting money and time into these things they don't want. Constantly cutting themselves and picking at those scabs again and again and again. And to think it has anything to do with Destiny 2 is laughable. It's outright embarrassing to have to admit to being associated with Destiny.
Seriously, going back to Destiny 1 was always an option. I never knew that until my own clan leader let me know that the servers never shut down. it was a nice thought as I missed Sunsinger's ability to self-res, but that raised the question about why the haters (including a large majority of that same clan) were still even around on Destiny 2 at all, continuing to waste all their time and money on a sequel they can't stand and make constant comparisons to the original. I don't think they know what they want out of this series at all.
To devote myself to the game and pick it up means having to throw in my lot with them...I love the game but I can't stand these miserable shitheads that I have to put up with just to get anything done. With the Division, though, the playerbase is actually happy! I'm happy! The players are friendly, even during the cutthroat PvP that entails the Dark Zone! I actually want to be a part of it all despite none of my actual friends being interested because at least I don't have to deal with someone complaining every five minutes about microtransactions and business decisions they could easily have just let go or when they passive aggressively dress down or single out a member of their raid team simply because they aren't performing to their standards. I have to really apologize in advance to
thronezwei and even
manakoro for ever having to put up with these people who don't deserve a good game.
For me to really be excited for a brighter future for Destiny, I need to have my faith restored in the community that keeps it alive. Until I know for certain that the attitude of the players truly changes for the better, my time on Destiny will continue to be spotty and I will continue to be more invested in Tom Clancy's the Division, the upcoming sequel, and other MMOs where common sense and courtesy is practiced even on opposing sides in PvP.
