My understanding is that pole dancing is sometimes offered as a method of giving yourself a full body workout. Really, anything that involves lifting your own body weight multiple times is going to really work at least a few muscles (arms, legs, core, etc.). A very classic move is performing the human flag and I still have a hard time wrapping my head around how one could develop enough muscle to pull something like that off.
