So I'm guessing some of you are like me.
You like a wide variety of electronic music, from different ages and styles -- a little of this, a little of that. But what is it all, really? Why is Hardcore different from Hardstyle, what's Gabbercore, what's Acid House? If you're like me, a lot of these terms are confusing at best and meaningless at worst. You like a song, but god only knows how to classify it, and thus find other songs like it on this complex series of tubes.
But then I found this: http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
It's a flash based guide that, using a giant chart ordered by relations and age, you can read about and listen to samples from each genre and subgenre and sub-classification, to find out what's what, and why. I think it's pretty cool and informative if this kind thing is your deal~ l3

He got un-convicted a few months later, but he's no longer a US senator threatening to retard-up the tubes.
Er, not all of it. ^^
But at the very least it taught me a few things, like not using the all-encompassing blanket term "industrial" to describe what I enjoy/listen to, since it's more along the lines of 'darkwave'
After reading Encyclopedia Dramatica all night yesterday, the words of others mean a lot less lately. x3
I was actually just talking to a friend the other day about how clueless I was when it came to all the different genres of electronic music. Now I have a place to go to for some clarification. Thanks :3
but the only really bad thing about it is, it's HIGHLY opinionated... but still, it's quite entertaining ^^
also, to attempt to answer your questions:
- major difference? Hardcore is at least 15-30bpm faster that Hardstyle...
- Gabbercore is really annoying (in my opinion anyway XDDD)...
- AcidHouse is House music made with or contains elements of the TB-303 synthesizer by Roland (a failed bass guitar simulator that succeeded XDDD)
beings a producer myself, i try to learn about all these style (i've also made a goal to make at least one song in every style before attempting to invent my own :333)
also, you're the one who drew blitz the typhlosion (tyko's new rival X333), right??
I'm well knowledged in where to find good chippies. >3
But I know what you mean. I've been listening to electronic music for about 15 years, and while back then it was just "techno", nowadays there's such a variety that it gets confusing really easily.
What has helped me in that regard is for example the site http://www.di.fm/ where you can listen to webradio in all different kinds of genres. I like that site a lot since I listen to all different kinds of electronic music.
My favourite artist though when it comes to music, called BT, made so many songs that don't fit in any particular genre, and that's what I like about his music. It's so creative and there's so much variety in it that you can't really put him in a particular genre :D
I've sent this song to several people already who like any sort of electronic music, and all of them really liked it, so maybe you'll enjoy it too.
To me it's really his best song yet, and a real masterpiece in my eyes (or should I say ears?) :D
