It is simply my personal preference of maintaining consistency to an OC's design, personality and timeline.
I don't mind genderbending, but I's personally never do that to my own characters.
For the same reason I prefer to only have my OCs get involved in fairly thematically fitting art/stories. :)

You're correct. That's the option I've gone with as a placeholder for years now, cause it was the 'simpler' version of the two. In truth I dunno which I wanna go with, hence the poll.

It's a really tough choice. I, myself, voted for being the same person for the sake of simplicity, despite my own preference towards their female form. But I suppose it depends on further narrowing down the context. Would you like to add further complexity? Could you see male/female Vaxis having different personalities, beliefs, likes, dislikes, preferences, orientations, stories and backgrounds? Associating themselves with different people, or engaging in different activities depending on whom they're with or the gender they currently are? Being comfortable treating them as their own separate character?

If the answer to any of these (or depictions of possible twincest imagery) are a heartfelt Yes, then I would consider making them twins. If you are still not certain and would rather get the best of both worlds without splitting them up, I say remain a shapeshifter. Either way, I wish you luck with reaching a solid decision. Gods know, it takes me years just to decide on hair colour, let alone genders or names... and I still change things up every now and then. Canon be damned.

My guess was magic to change between though twins is not a bad idea. It could lead to some interesting situations..

I voted for same person but I feel there's a third explanation (the same that I use): alternate reality stuff, universes where one is male and the other is female. That way you don't have to say they're a shapeshifter which implies they have some sort of magical or divine ability.

That 3rd option is not present cause I'm sadly not a fan of the whole alternate universe stuff. More power to you if it works for you, ...but its not my cup of tea x3

I had actual thought they were 2 different people, twins as you said, like Male Vaxi was a "little brother" type that the now Queen Vaxi had kept him under her thumb this whole time.
