I should probably slowly start to migrate back towards digital art, tho maybe focus on just sketching and lines, and simple colours for a while there too. I would probably go back to FireAlpaca for that, since Krita has been behaving very strangely every time I've started it for anything lately. I have a lot of character designing to do and I'm hoping some of the hesitation and commitment issues I have with art have eased with the ballpoint doodling from the past few months.
Work hasn't actually much affected my art output. A little at first ofc bc I was so tired but I've gotten used to being on my feet. Besides, perks of having no friends or life is that I have all the evenings to just watch Netflix or Youtube and draw, lol~ I still struggle a bit in general but overall I feel like my speed and consistency of being able to produce art has improved a bit.
Right now I need to create 4 "furry" characters and am looking into just exactly what style I want them to be. I have fondness for more "realistic" animal story book type of faces (a la Beatrix Potter and Brian Paterson) but they would need to be a bit more expressive, I think. Maybe I could find a happy balance between that and a completely cartoony stuff. I might need to study Lackadaisy Cats, actually, since the 3 main characters are going to be cats and it's also historical settings. The fourth one is a bunny, pressing her huge ears to doors they don't belong...
I got 3 books of Victorian and Edwardian fashion from the library. They're mainly women's fashion but it's a start. I probably want my general time period to be "late Victorian/Edwardian" but my characters be a bit stuck on "full-Victorian", AKA can't afford the latest fashions. So that weird "pigeon chest" thingy, bustles, and corsets, but also some of that more relaxed and loose style, just a bit. And cycling suits! Huge Gibson hair and hats! And I mean, fashion is fashion but those dresses were made to last. Someone wore them, even when they weren't fashionable anymore. Not gonna be too pedantic about and I hope no one else will be either.
I also need to finally get onto something I've been avoiding for a long time and that is to design the non-FR dragon Orestes. Eudoxia is good with red and silver, but I want just a tad bit more "natural" colours in my world. Greenish tones in the fur might do but the hair won't really do. I've drawn AU versions of him with black hair so I might try that. Black with purplish highlights. We'll see.
