A Word About Photography
The photographs I've used as backgrounds in some of my pictures were taken by me personally, and they have been transferred from the original negatives or slides (although some of them were taken more recently with digital cameras.) The very earliest ones were taken with a borrowed Olympus 35mm camera, but I soon got the bug and bought myself an old Pentax camera at a pawn shop. Some of the pictures were taken forty years ago, and there is sometimes damage to the negatives, such as scratches and chemical stains. The color negatives tend to be faded as well. Or course there is also the problem of dirt and dust. I fix everything up in the computer before I do anything else with them, and the unintended consequence of this is that I've ended up learning a lot about using Photoshop for actual photo retouching. In a few cases I've also "painted out" some human beings who happened to be lurking in the shots. I wonder if this newfound skill might be useful for anything besides making more furry art. Maybe making more furry art is enough. I've certainly been having a good time making these images, and I hope ya all like 'em, too.

It's a shame photo and cinematographic film deteriorate as they do, but I suppose it's just how time and tide are, what with dust, light and fungal issues damaging such things. :/ Thankfully we have access to useful programs to at least preserve something of a faithful replication.
Also, could you let me know the next time you're in Santa Barbara so I can bother you and make you sign all my comic books? Just kidding. Mostly.
I'm not sure when we'll be going back to SB, but maybe in the near future...
Back in the day I used to work in a camera store, and specialized in photo restoration, so I used Photoshop for touching up actual photos. It was only later that I used Photoshop for... everything except photos. In that respect, it's kind of weird how Photoshop became the de facto standard for all types of graphics, as it's not very well designed for painting or cartoons.
Personally, I don't like to draw in the computer (I don't own a computer drawing tablet myself, although I have used them at work) so I draw on paper and scan it if I want to do something with it in the computer. Photoshop has other uses, though. I use it a lot for doing color work. It's certainly much better for coloring comic books than the old process color system we used to use.
Seriously, I’ve enjoyed your series.
As long as I don't have to suffer any Annoying Orange here...
Also, congrats on the new skill set! I'm an amateur photographer myself, but the idea of learning post-manipulation is really intimidating.
