Today I saw the World in it's true beauty after 20 years!

[ General information ] ♞ [ Commission info ] ♞ [ Open slots and commission status ] ♞ [ About me ] I wear glasses since 2nd or 3rd grade. Over the years my eyes gradually degraded and my glasses became stronger and stronger. Today my eyes are 6 and 6.5 diopter. I knew the glasses add a lot of distortion, chromatic aberration and other issues to my vision but I could never really feel how much.
Then today I've tried contact lenses for the first time in my life. And it was AMAZING!
The distortion is gone, everything is bigger (as glasses make everything smaller, about 10% in my case), everything is way more three dimensional, my peripheral vision is clear, the frame of the glasses is gone from my vision, no messing with constantly dirty and scratched glasses, or water speckles if there is rain, but not only that! To my great surprise, colors and contrast are better too! Everything looks more vibrant, more dynamic. More real.
The difference is mind blowing. I became quite emotional, for being able to see the World properly for the first time in 20 years or so.
For now I can only wear them for a few hours a day, my eyes need to gradually get used to them. Going back to glasses after wearing them sucked so much, I could now see clearly how much worse my vision through glasses is. But I'm really looking forward to see how much of a difference they will make when working on art.

I am crawling around with -11 dioptrines. Luckily this has not degraded during my life. x3
Congratulations and enjoy.
And yeah, the fog, the constant needing to clean, not being able to enjoy rain like I used to and so on... I hate glasses so much, and being able to see well without them is a dream coming true.
Still only in the second day, it will take two weeks to go from daily 3 hours to 12 gradually, so it's early to celebrate fully, but so far so good and I'm happy. :) So thank you!
I was born with astigmatism in both eyes, I only need a .05 magnification but I cannot afford glasses, so for the last twenty years, I have been using 2,5x glasses from the dollar store. I only need correction to stop letters from moving when I read, squinting does nothing. But I have normal vision otherwise, except signs are impossible to read until I get right up on top of them (20 feet).
I can still hit anything I point a pistol at with either hand with deadly accuracy from playing paintball.
I have friends that forget to pick up another set of contacts once a week then have to go back to glasses to get another set. Other friends found contact companies Bausch and Lomb, others; raise their prices unilaterally making them too expensive after you are committed to wearing them: and had to go back to glasses since there is no new set you have to buy once a week.
Good luck on those, be extra careful around people welding because if you glance at a weld in progress like looking at the sun for 30 minutes, in a half a second, you can peel your cornea off at the end of the day because your contacts welded to your eye in that glance from the intense light! I weld is how I know this, everyone that needs correction uses glasses because getting flashed is common in a welding shop.
