What did your first drawing look like?
I draw since I can remember. Literally, I have photos of me as a baby drawing on the kitchen and garden. However everybody i know used to draw when little. To answer this question i should mention 4 moments in my life that could be considered "the start"
1- When i was in kinder, my mom (she's not an artist at all) teached me how to draw "evil hands", you know those with pointy fingers (like the pokemon gengar hands), it was really crappy, but at the same time awesome... in those days i used to draw a lot of monsters and warriors, and fake videogame screenshots on paper... things like mortal kombat character fighting on a bridge with the health bars and everything, or sonic jumping from one place to another (it was easier to draw him humping, since it was just a blue sphere. XD). I was 4-5 years old at this time.
2-When i was in Highschool i get in contact with pokemon cards. I saw them on magazines and tv comercials, however in my country they were super hard to find, and super expensive for a kid, you ccouldn't find them in my city at all. So I started making my own, with Duplex Cardboard and pen drawings. Did my best to mimc the drawings and style, even tried making my own cards... my friends at school jumped in the bandwagon and i got some kind of popularity between pokemon fans, cause i let everybody play with my cards. it was the only way most of us could do it anyway. The same happened with yugioh cards when the anime started. But then piratery reached Argentina and we got high quality fake cards made by printers around the country, my services became unnecesary, and i started working on my own cardgames (i also worked on my own tabletop games. My highschool dream was to have my own company of tabletop games).... however, the bullying was a serious thing, and i stoped drawing, had other interests in mind and i always worked so hard con school and videogames i varelly was able to put any on my art.
3-When I ended highschool i was able to travel to bariloche with my class, i was able to get some Decks of a card game that was super popular here in LatinAmerica (Mitos y Leyendas) but that was imposible to get on my city... The game was already in bankrupt, i didn't knew, but at least i had the cards, and loved the art... when i got home and started studyin in the university, i find my favorite artist from that card game on DeviantArt and contacted him asking questions like the one i'm answering you now... he was kind enought to let me know his story, and that fueled me a lot to get better, and get back to drawing as a serious business, but still as a hobbie, since i had a carreer to develop as a graphic design college student. I was 18 in this moment of my life
4-The next step was 2 years after that. I meet my GF on Facebook and DeviantArt, a furry and fantasy entusiast, who loved boardgames and shows like the ones i used to be... we became best friends and i felt in love. we both have our old dreams, she wanted to draw for Disney and similar companies, and i wanted to draw for games Like Magic the gathering and D&D... in some way we motivated each other... and that was the moment we got brave enought to start selling commissions.
I actually stoped drawing for a looong time between each of these moments, and didn't realised i wanted to do it seriously until the 3rd moment. however 1 and 2 were the cathalists of everything, and the 4th was the reason I'm working from this now.
About the second question. Maybe I could find some photos of those drawings. However I'm sure i have some oldies here and in DeviantArt, from the moment i meet this ilustrator that motivated me with his story. I'll see what can I find to share here, if you want. ^^
Glad you kept at it though :D
