So got a few things to talk about :3

First up: Next album

Kaiju was originally targeted at about 10-12 tracks for release, but since I've been diving into a new sound a bit I'm going to push that to 16 tracks!
I feel like that's a much more comfortable number for the album overall, and should just feel better as a whole.

I'm really putting some love into this album, I hope you guys enjoy it when it's out :3


Next up, got some new toys since I last posted a journal!

Might've heard it already in a few of my tracks, I got my hands on my late uncle's Yamaha MT100 II cassette deck, and have been using it to get the sweet lofi cassette vibe I've been chasing. Nothing more authentic than the real deal eh?
I'm going to be hunting down Dictaphones and other old cassette devices to get some variety in the sound I can get out of these old tapes.


As far as physical instruments go, I've gotten a new lead guitar and bass since the last post, and oh boy they're both fun.

The lead is a frankensteined thrashy thing with a whammy bar, either a Stratocaster or Jackson body with a B.C. Rich neck. I've been using this for the more heavily distorted thrashy stuff, and for those dive bombs I use in a few tracks. My Les Paul I still use for all the smoother clean stuff, but this new one is very receptive to distortion and overdrive.

The bass is something I've lovingly calling "Janktimus Prime". Oh god is it janky, like super janky. It's got an off-white banged up body to it, worn down frets, the pickups are worn, rust on the tuners and coils, but there are some very unique sounds I can pull from it I'm absolutely loving. I don't know what it is, but when I was messing with it at the guitar shop, the high strings just felt good to play and had this nice sound for picking, and the low strings just seemed to get sucked into the body and linger for eternity.

In use I've been getting this sweet, almost square synth sound out of finger plucking the strings up the neck at the octave mark, it's a cool sound that works well with bitcrushing I've found so far.


Aside from those two I'm still keeping my eyes out for other janky instruments to mess with. I'm looking around to see if there's any viable electric ukuleles at a good price point, same for lap guitars and oddball parts guitars. Electric violin has been sitting in the back of my mind ever since I saw Bad Snacks use one in a few of her tracks, so who knows? maybe I'll get one of those at some point.
