More art is coming!
I’ve just been trying to figure out how to move forward with my neurocardiogenic syncope. (Fainting spells caused by low blood pressure)
I’ve had a spell recently and thankfully I was sitting on my bed so there was no risk of a fall.
I’m saving for the doctor so I can finally get some treatment going for it as well as have a medical history confirming it. My stepmother just got her masters degree in nursing and has informed me all about it after I described what happens to me.
I hate it because I’ve never seen myself as a weak person or as someone who just randomly faints. I’ve been embarrassed about this condition as well as scared, so I hadn’t pursued any help before.
What sucks is it can be triggered by so many things! Standing too fast/long, swallowing too hard, high anxiety/stress, coughing, using the bathroom, intense pain, etc!
The condition itself isn’t really dangerous, what’s dangerous is the falling. In 2012 I had two spells in rapid succession while in the bathroom and ended up smacking my face against the bathtub.
I’m glad it wasn’t my teeth, but my cheek and nose were hit so hard that clear stuff oozed through the skin and made a scab.
Last year I was at my sisters in her backyard, she was consoling me after a fight with our mother and suddenly I felt myself dreaming. I woke up with my sister behind me keeping my chair from falling over on the concrete.
The most recent spell, I was on my bed like I said, regular drawing session, headphones in! Having a pretty good time. Then I coughed too hard? The wrong way? I’m not sure but suddenly the YouTube video I was listening to stopped making sense and I was falling back. Woke shortly after dazed and foggy/shaky but I knew what had happened.
I have always tried to fight it, I breathe slow and and deep, I try to force myself to focus and wish it passes. But I read recently that I shouldn’t do that because the syncope will always win. Reading that made me feel more powerless. All I can do is sit against something or lay down so that I don’t injure myself when I fall.
This took a serious turn but the point is, I’m here and I’m drawing.
