im not a popufur (if you can read)
I may have 30759 peps watching but that not a really number see how well some one is doing. one to look at is the viwes peps who really come and look at my work
as of now I have about 1500 to 2500 who come in and view my work.
4 years ago(2014) had and average of 2000 to 5000 views.
and a year before (2013) bit more better. 3000 to 6000.
and even farther back I was I was working my way to now, and still pulling good numbers at the time.
when writing this going tho my full post history and even first 3 pic I posted got 1000 to 600 views.
im not trying to be obsess with my numbers here, but looking at this I was hoping some growth.
been posting for about 10 years now and I feel my work and the growth been stagnant or dropping down.
its a lil hard to compeat in majority of the fandom is base off of NSFW.
and if I were to kinda brake out of that still make it big my work would have to look even better then it is now(drawing sfw)
or find a way to work more accessible to pep with what I can do now/ witch I don't know at the time/ some peps have gotten it with lower skills then me and there doing well.
at the time I really don't know what to do to make this better. been posting for years non stop so im not forgotten in this internet space. if you don't post often your forgotten.
now im at the point were im really burnt out and im really slowing down. but I cant slow down much cuz I have patreon post to post to my supporters. but I kinda feel bad now
feels like im posting the same thing over and over again ( not really, more uninspired work)
so taking a brake is a bit hard. with the lil I make on patreon barely cover everything and there is no growth in income or dips down do to some drops in patreon.
so im working to keep my patreon supports happy to get what I can to keep that lil extra income to stay afloat, but in the proses burning out and my work dipping in (better quality/ more inspirational work.)
sorry this was a bit random but this is were im at in life.
I don't know what to do now to make this better im in hard place now.
thank you all who read^^

I don't really know how do overcome this problem myself. I think I built an reasonable protfolio right now, similar to you and I fear, that doing NSFW would ruin it (not a fan of making multiple accounts for different stuff).
On the other hand, you gotta do, what you gotta do. So if it comes to a point, where I can't sustain myself anymore, I have to consider other options and doing NSFW art is one of the most reasonable options, since the request for it is the highest.
https://twitter.com/RuZarptag/statu.....87310754017281
is how I feel that type of art is easy-er then others.
reason why I do so lil.
And a lot of people love SFW art. It does really well. NSFW tend to just be an easy button for people to latch onto (myself included).
you also have a... i guess, furry version of moe-blob cutsey drawing style.
your characters are more cartoon animal than zoomorphised human(basically human shape with decorations), which doesnt lend itself to porn, without being disturbing. something which other artists/pornographers basically rely on for attention. and easy money.
if you are worried about views, try mirroring your work to other furry sites.
possibly try creating a long form web comic to try and give life to your characters. you say you create manga, think of such a project as self advertisment and a possible future patreon income.
-Characters with no background are unpopular
-Characters with a background are a little bit popular
-Characters in an action pose are more popular
-Characters interacting with objects or the environment are best
I think that your comics will be very popular if you study how to tell a complete story, starting at the beginning and finishing at the end. You are very good at the manga style of art, but your stories don't show readers why they should care about the characters. Readers need to know who the characters are, where they come from, and how they arrived at where they are and what they are doing. Readers also need to know what happens to the characters afterwards. Everyone will want to see the characters that they are interested in, so your art will get more views just by having those characters in it even if it is not a part of the comic that they are from.
When drawing for a niche group, sometimes you can honestly do well even while not being very skilled. I have seen it time and time again. And sometimes it's even more about popularity. While other times it's just about a fetish and how often you draw it.
SFW content I think heavily relies on composition and really drawing the attention of the view to what you draw. To keep their gaze locked in a loop so that they keep coming back for more. There are just some drawings out there that sometimes you can't stop looking at them and you don't mind seeing them over and over again.
As someone who has been a pretty big fan of yours and looked up to you for sometime, I am actually surprised to see a journal like this that pretty much speaks out the thoughts I have myself. Granted I am by no means at your skill level yet, nor do I have those kind of views.
I once contacted you about how I was thinking about quitting art through a note on Deviantart and you wrote back and gave advice. From an artist I look up to, I really appreciated that kindness especially since I wasn't even sure I would hear back from you. Anyway, maybe I can repay that kindness with a little bit of feedback as someone who has been following you for some time.
First, I think your style is amazing. It has that visual appeal that is needed. But I notice a lot of your drawings lack contrast to draw the viewers gaze to where you want their eyes to be. For example, a lot of the characters you draw with backgrounds can often feel like a part of the background rather than the main subject. Or many of the shadows on the character feel a bit too light. This isn't all of your drawings, just some of them. Also some of the colors can feel a bit washed out where you would expect them to be more vibrant and stand out.
The only other things I have noticed is your inking style is very flat. Line weight can add a lot of depth and style to a character and scene. I actually think adding more line weight where it's needed alone would make such a huge difference that you might be surprised. Using thick lines for things closer to the viewer and thinner lines for things further. Using thin lines is great for animation, but if you are creating a still image ... I really think you should try using weighted lines more.
And I know you already know how to do line weights cause you use them here.

Anyway, I hope you don't take the feedback as harsh. I really love your art. These are just some things I noticed while studying your artwork.
Just... I mean :
- If view rate fall down, actualy : what concequencies occur ? You still workin' thanks to your Patreon, so it's MORE important to focus on the Tip you earn !
- The problem of NSFW can be simply bypass by... Well : Passing by. Or else, find another Furr-Art-database, which restrict the content. (That is actualy something that, I'm sure, exist)
- What about doin' entire stories ?! More comic maybe ? And so :
- What happened with Gunbun ? Is it gonna be an authantic comic ?
- You're not gonne be "forgoten" RU, c'mon ! You got a serious fan-base, hard and welded, and which appreciate your work !
And etc... I've probably forgot MANY things...
You can't please the entire world. Motivate public will come right in time
There were many users that leave for whatever reason and those decrease activity.
I've seen pretty amateur artists with lot's of interaction, followers etc for doing nsfw/r34 content which some are lazy repeats of the same pose and see nothing but success but then you have amazing pro level artists who can barely get half the attention for something much higher quality.
Honestly it's super discouraging especially for small artist like me who try to please people alongside stuff I wanna actually make and yet struggle to find success,I'm not super amazing but I'd at least like to see more results for my work.
If I've learned anything over time is that effort does not equal success (most of the time) not 100% accurate but in my case I'll spend a lot of time making a full illustration with a nice BG with lighting and shading and get almost no interactions but I make a simple nsfw drawing with no BG and get tons of traffic. (comparatively anyways)
At least in my case I've kinda given up in a sense I just draw whatever and hope it does good.
What originally drew me to you was the hopes of managing to commission you as I enjoyed your style but I never got the chance too as I didn't make a FA until a few years later but even so I never happened to get lucky.
However as time passed, Ive come to notice that you often do the same things...? You don't tend to really stray from static full body poses along with characters whom have very similar facial features, especially in your more recent years. It makes it a bit more difficult to grow attached when everything looks so similar. Back in 2013, I would often be very excited to see your comics of Ru and Mako because their interactions were incredibly precious. The animation you did for them for Christmas was one of the most endearing things I’ve seen! Not only that you used to make INCREDIBLE adopts... I think you had a ton of interest in that too and it wasn't related to NSFW.
I think its probably best to move away from the whole “nsfw artists have it so easy” mindset as with it, I think you are also putting yourself down in the process. That and for your public image... It may not be the best impression to put out that you might have resentment towards NSFW artists as it can potentially drive away people who think otherwise. Needless to say everyone has their niche and those who know you know that nsfw is not your thing. Many many people have success with a cute style that don't do NSFW so Id say thats not a contributing factor so some things I can suggest is the following:
Experiment with your style: Attempt to try new anatomy, different facial features, shading styles and poses.
Create some Adopts or Custom designs: Nothing better to put yourself out there by selling designs that buyers will share with their friends which could potentially lead to more customers and recognition. There has been many times that I personally have found artists of interest through the adopts/commissions that their customers purchased and reuploaded.
Open Commissions: Without a doubt, Commissions will give you traffic nsfw or not! You never know if the work you do for someone will grab the attention of another. Try out Auction style commissions, put a base price and have people bid!
Participate in Trades: This one is a little hit or miss but try to get involved in some Art Trades with your mutuals! It could be that their following might not know about you so if they see some art of your character, they might be inclined to come check you out.
Ru/Mako content: I feel as though this somewhat has been your staple and most successful content over the years and Ru is a very iconic character of yours! Maybe if you took some time to develop their backstory or share some more cute interactions.
Either way I hope none of my words or suggestions came off as harsh or condescending but I truly wish for your success on the path thats the least stressful for you ;0;!
You deserve a lot more attention, your art is really inspirating and refreshing!
Sure, you don't pull as much of a viewer count as other artists, but that's not a bad thing. If anything, I'd say you're very popular - you're still one of the... 'big' artists I've seen around FA. Your stuff is super smooth and unique!
Plus I'll never forget that sketch you drew for me. I have to remain loyal after that ;w;Close your eyes
Imagine how a group of 1000 to 600 people looks like standing infront you you.
AT LEAST this many people apriciate what you do C:
https://twitter.com/RuZarptag
The best way to do that is through collaborations, I think. You've the skill to be a semi-professional if you want, so why not act like a freelancer ? Here's my advice : find an agent. A real one, a professional one. Tell him or her that you're looking to expand your audience and have them search for contracts on your behalf. You could design mascots for new business, make covers for pop magazines, or even collaborate with other artists in illustration books !
The most important thing is that you create an identity, a brand as an artist, and that you get it out there. You can do it ! Ask professionals how they did it, people that live off of their art. Get them to share their contacts with you.
your one of my absolute favorite artists if i had money to give id more then happily support your patreon without ever expecting anything back
i hope things get better for you
i dont see why people could ever forget you your art style is very unique or atleast i hadnt seen anyone else with a similar artstyle
i dunno what else to say its not my place to make suggestions so all i can say is i hope you find a way to take whatever break you need you kinda deserve it
I found myself getting exited seeing a new character and wondering what you were going to do with them, or a new comic idea. There would be character sheets and everything, but then nothing would ever come of them.
I think what I'm trying to say is that you've really done a great job at perfecting your unique style, and and equally amazing job at posting consistently, but it has little to no content anymore. Think about it like a free-to-play game like Warframe (I don't know if you've played it or not). They do a great job with updating there players with news, adding new characters and skins to the game, but when it comes to actual story content and gameplay, it stays the same. While it brings in new players, the old ones get burnt out with the same kind of stuff with little to no changes. Similarly with you, as I said earlier, you got the consistency down, your art looks great, but not really anything to draw attention.
Somethings I would think about doing. First, take a break. Burnout is no good. Second, I would think about revisiting old concepts ( Rhythms of Life, Fox-Tan, Dra-una, even Gunbun). Try doing short stories with them first, instead of going into a long, 20-page per chapter story arcs that might take years to finish. It could be about simple things like what they do in there free time, family life, even a story about a cardboard box ( ok, that last one was weird, but it's something). It doesn't even have to be a comic, it can be one single picture with a story in the description.
I am not a professional of any kind, and i'm kind of working with this myself on a smaller scale. I hope you get things worked out and have fun again!
I started following for Ru and Mako, but I don't see them interact hardly ever anymore.
But in all case...you have crazy good drawing skill and your own distinct style, that's count for alot! I also especially liked those comic page you did lately(goat and off-paw), it was a cool change and it looked really cool! It's a shame that you attract less people...and yes, NSFW always attract people more...but those are also quicker to leave usually.
I just hope that this...slowing down don't cause you too much troubles financially, as you clearly have enough skill to deserve being able to live from it. Best of luck with all this and thanks for all the cool draw!
The views have declined here in general in the past few years for everybody, not just you. Might be a combination of factors like this site staying in early internet age tech, a lot of competitors dividing the attention, other more general and popular social media allowing NSFW like twitter overtaking the traffic from focused galleries like this, more people growing out of the fandom than new people coming in, etc.
I'd suggest to get more active in twitter, instagram and facebook, leave links in your uploads so people can find you there easily. Maybe work with other artists, collabs are a pretty good way to share fans between creators.
Dunno. From my angle you're just fine, having a massive amount of popularity. But I can't blame you for wanting more, everybody wants more than what they have, otherwise there's no reason to keep doing anything, lol.
I have been enjoying your art for a long time and it's one of the things that has helped inspire me to try to make art too.
If you feel like you need a break, you should take it but I can understand if you have to draw to make money or else.
Just try not to look at your numbers so much and just focus on how many people you make happy with your work :)
from a viewers stand point (be it I still love your work) it's TOO consistent and I personally think you got a little comfortable since there haven't been many improvements or changes to your work to keep the watch base interested. New themes and ideas generate daily so it's easy to find out whats popular at the time but what counts is how eye catching it is and the originality of it all. If all the pieces have are generic poses and facial expression people will start to see the same thing over and over again and it's like watching a series that you're not sure where it's going but still kind of curious to look into it every once in awhile because you invested so much time
my best advice is to look at everything you've done, see your most popular pieces and invest time in improving on areas that you could be more adept in, I'm constantly looking for ways to improve and things I could be changing to make my style better, more detailed, and more elaborate BG and expressions.
It doesn't need to be NSFW to be eye catching, it just needs to be interesting
About 2 years ago I was having a hard time making commissions so I opened NSFW commissions with a separate account. I did let my watchers on this account know about it, but over time, I really haven't seen a spike in views/favs/orders. I've been pushing my self for a better quality of art and expanding into Youtube and things have been stable. I honestly don't feel like just drawing NSFW really gets the crazy views as people think. Those NSFW artists all had to work and build an audience to them. Sam could go with fan art. With my Youtube, I'm finding people enjoy my original art just as well, if not more, then the fan art.
That's just my experience. it may not be the same for everyone.
For what brought me into your art was how anime/manga and fun it was. I also enjoyed your more dynamic poses and angles. I really loved your comics and characters. I always want to see more of them and the world. I also like your human work as well. I think I originally found you on InkBlazers, But not sure.
im not saying all
but I can agree when I do my stuff I constantly feel things I draw are underrated and niche...which half is true cause I at least try do something that no one haven't done yet
Furry community works like if theres a new trend of lewds
I like nsfw I will admit, but im trying to not make it the focus of my gallery just to draw people in
I don't have experience in using patreon or art for stable income
But I recall finding you on deviantart maaaany years ago through your personal comics and story
And some of your old animation as well
I'm still super curious about what the world/universe is like along with your characters and their personalities as well :0
Maybe working on some of your own personal projects (after a well deserved break) will help with that burn-out thing
Because drawing things you don't want to all the time can be, well.... Draining and kinda depressing after a while
You should draw things you like, and what you want to as well
And hopefully others will enjoy it too :>
Some folks out there get supporters for their story or animation content too, like sneak peeks at progress pics or early access to comic pages (if it's something you're interested in)
But most importantly, your well being should be on the top of that priority list
You're still a person behind all of the content you create (hopefully others will understand this as well)
I remember being excited every time i saw you had posted something new because i knew it was more adorable stuff about your personal and unique characters.
As time passed by, you diversified and produced a lot of different kinds of art and even rebooted, but this also meant the content i watched you for happened less often.
It´s quite obvious that your skill and your art has improved and gotten so much better over the years and that the content you produce is very high quality and good.
But, to explain it simply, it almost feels like i am watching a different artist who took over your account?
Back then, you felt like the most unique FA artist around, with such a special and different character and art, while now, your art skill has raised a lot but it feels more.....generic?
It´s hard to explain, and i apologize if i sound rude.
How people who want to reach a goal about being popular could be idiot? I'm clearly not the only one who want to be popular as I know! The thing is NOT to say it and do your best because it seems very unpleasant to others to clam that kind of thing.
For your journal, I can't very help you sadly but I follow you and I like your art style if it could sheer you up! ^^
My personal tip is being yourself and do whatever you want to do.
If you can't go further I guess it's because you try too many things at the same time and it can be too random at some point that you need a break. (That happen to me before)
I have made a reflection about my own list of artists I follow but I realize that artists I watch are artists who product their main content without trying anything else.
(ex : FOX-POP is an artist I follow because his main product is his comic he work on, his style is unique and he makes commissions/AT sometimes, that's how he works.)
(ex2 : mochiri is a kemono fursuit maker, her main product is running her business with adoptions and fursuits. I watch her because her style is complexe and unique.)
(ex3 : YOU RUdragon is an artist who also have an unique style, you mainly use it to make your characters but you seem to do a little bit of everything like commissions/comics/fanarts/your fursonas with beautyful backgrounds)
Hope things work out.
I remember when I followed you like... I think it was maybe 8-9 years ago or something. I saw your work and was just blown away because it was so different than what others were doing. It had a lot of passion in it. Everything you made felt like it came from your own world. It does seem recently that your stuff feels a little uninspired, even if it is really good. If there's inspiration you can gather from something to draw more people into that world it could as well, that's what made me a fan of your work. I've also mentioned your name when the discussion of favorite artists come up when i'm at a convention and people tend to know exactly who i'm talking about. The people and fans are there even if the activity doesn't reflect that. Maybe find a spot for a booth at a furcon? One's i've been to get packed. Not sure what it takes or the effort involved (i'm sure it's probably a crapton of work) but might be worth it.
You will always be my favorite artist and I think you deserve a lot more recognition than what you receive.
sorry that my thoughts on this subject are so unorganized.
