FA Snuck In Something Helpful To The Site
6 years ago
While I personally feel that the whole shinies thing is the staff trying to distract us from the fact that they aren't actually implementing any of the features people have been asking for over the past decade, they did actually take a good step forward with the way submissions are displayed:
High-resolution submissions will now scale to fit the size of your browser window when seen in Full View instead of stretching out the entire page.
This is a huge quality-of-life improvement, as you can still see the image in its full resolution by hitting the download button and expanding it there, but now you don't have to choose between squinting at the tiny thumbnail view or trying to piece together the whole thing in your head as you navigate a gargantuan billboard that you can only see a fraction of at any given moment. It baffles me that they wouldn't announce this as part of the site's update, as it is one of the very few steps in the right direction that they've made over the past few years.

You aren't seeing the images in the true full size. You'd have to download it to see the actual full size.
I was hoping that they would fix the change
Plus, if you actually want to download the image, you can still get the full resolution from the full view. The website loads the full resolution file but simply scales it down to fit the browser, so you don't even have to click Download to get the the full image.
Most the time it isn't an issue but on huge pics like large price sheets, the text is still very small even on the full browser size.
It is just a little annoying to have to open the image in a seperate tab to see the full size image.
It's not a huge deal, just annoying.
However, FA could take this a step further and appease everyone by doing what DeviantArt does: if an image is very high-resolution, then clicking on it will cycle between three sizes. First a small thumbnail size, then scaling it up to fit the browser window, and then the actual full size. I think that would work best for everyone, though right now I am just happy that they have this because I think that this makes things more convenient for more people than not.
Repeat after me: "If it's not downloaded in it's own window, watching full-sized images within a website template is frustrating and bad."
(And this is based on the Classic layout, not the Beta layout.)
