It’s pride month!
Did this exact same thing a year ago and I just can’t help thinking how far we’ve come while staying in the same place.
For those of you who’ve been around you may remember how much “discourse” there was last year during pride, no less, on if Ace and Aro people are a legitimate part of the community, which is still so much bullshit, come on. So far though, no widespread drama this year I can see, which as far as I’m concerned, is a step in the right direction!
Still, this is my people, and I wanna spread some love in a community that gets far too little of it
So, if you’re ace/aro, drop a ref of your sona + what you identify as for some pride freebies 👌

BUT I'm glad to see something like that, seeing as apparently some ppl think that ppl think ace/aro ppl don't deserve their place at pride and that's bs!

I hope so... like... people will say things like "being ace is HOW you love, not WHO you love so they don't have a place at pride!" making it about orientation only, but pride is about much more than that. The hardships lived by someone who's ace and/or aro are not the same, but they're still there.
Just like what trans ppl need isn't the same as what gay ppl need
there's still a need to accept that ace/aro ppl are not broken, and it's not that they "haven't found the right person".
Maybe it IS a result of something for some people, but it's still valid.
And it really sucks that within a community all about accepting people as they are no matter what society says there are still people who will say "you don't belong"
The idea of “who not how” is ridiculous because being ace is a sexual orientation. it’s a who- through and through, the answer is just ‘no one’. Homosexual, Bisexual, Asexual- they all ask the same question and answer it with different answers.
Not to mention, the hardships ace people face are often exactly the same as the rest of the LGBT+ community, with the idea of “fixing” being a very difficult and strong issue for people within the ace community. “It’s a phase”, “you just haven’t found the right person yet”- those aren’t just ace problems, and they’re not just gay/lesbian problems either.
gatekeeping is a real-ass, disgusting problem, coming from people who aren’t even willing to try and understand a group of people different from them, who then go around preaching the same thing.
Yeah... people will say that because an ace person won't be at risk for losing a job they don't belong is ignoring all the other hardships...
Hopefully it'll get better with time, and we won't have to deal with it anymore.
It's wild, like. If you don't feel it- you know don't, you know? It's not a matter of will and its definitly not "living without love".
I mean, I get what they're saying but that's not a gateway to being part of the LGBT+ community. If someone lives in a place where there's laws against discrimination, or even just an area that's very open to the LGBT+ - that doesn't make them less of a part of the community.
Also, ace people get socially shunned just abt as much as gay/bi/etc people, either bc of their sexuality being seen as "weird" (same as anything else that's not straight) or as people just brading them as "gay" and treating them with the same penny.
