E3 Final Review (Spoilers)
General
EA: B
I fully expected EA to mess this up, but they actually had a good presentation. Star Wars taking inspiration from Metriod and Batman is a great sign to see. Maybe they won’t mess it up?
Xbox: D
I was pretty high on their presentation until I realized all the games they showed trailers to were the same games from their previous E3, and setting the trend for E3 most of their games comes out holiday 2020, so pretty much 2021. Thats really bad.
Not only that, theres also a new console coming out. Typically thats amazing, but I feel fans are going to be pissed having to buy a new system every two or three years instead of Nintendo or Sony where it is about every 5 years. To top that off theres a $60 fee for online so… $700 on systems and internet every 2 or 3 years. Yikes.
There was good stuff though. Cyber punk looks amazing, with Keanu Reeves. Seems to be a futuristic GTA which should be pretty fun. Lego star wars has the whole series in one game, Tales of Arise looks like a great game, Gears 5 is similar to Halo’s firefight but it has objectives, and Halo is Halo. Halo alone is amazing, and those graphics are some of the best I’ve seen.
Sony: N/A
They are probably taking a year off after God of War 4 and Spiderman last year.
Bestheda: F
Needed to impress after Fallout 76 disaster, they did not. Instead of fixing the game they made a battle royal mode, (AKA money grab.) Sure they added NPCs and Dialogue, but I mean… thats been a feature in videogames since the 90s. Thats expected. Doom looked cool but won’t save them.
PC gaming show: N/A
Not a pc guy, but wanted to see what Chucklefish had after Stardew Valley was so amazing. Seems they are making a space station survival game that looks really good!
Ubisoft: A
Watchdog Lesions looks amazing! British Charm, kickass grandma, recruiting, action, stealth. It seems that you can also recruit random NPCs like Metal Gear 5, that looks like a great feature. This should be a very good game.
New Rainbow 6 title called Quarantine. It’s another military shooter game… the last one of those was Metal Gear survive. I don’t get it? But regular Rainbow 6 is really good so maybe this works out.
Brawhala = smash bros + sword. Lots of shooters. There was for honor with ninjas. The other game I really enjoyed seeing was Roller Champions, which is overwatch + rocket league. Thats going to be a blast as a party game. Overall solid showing from Ubisoft.
Square Enix: A+
Fans wanted Final Fantasy and they certainly got it. The capstone was the FF7 Remake, with about 15 minutes of gameplay, talks from the developers, and I believe there was a playable demo as well? Which certainly made fans happy. It’s not a true remake because they swapped turn based combat for cqc. However, thats probably a good thing because it speeds the game up and makes it more modern.
The Final Fantasy News didn’t stop there: FF 14 Shadowsiders, FF Fire Emblem, and FFXIII remaster were all either shown or announced. I also love it when developers release soundtracks, so a FF soundtrack release was icing on the cake.
Life is Strange 2 looks very similar to a talltale game, and is probably going to cast a heart wrenching story. Looks really good! After this they had more Dragonquest and RPGs, that was about it.
The one thing I didn’t like which others will is the KH3 DLC. I don’t think fans care at all about the nobodies, and adding a DLC to early backstory before the main series seems like a bad idea. IDK, thats just me.
Honestly, I’m not even a FF fan and I was blown away by their conference.
Nintendo: A-
The direct was ok, they were the only people to release more games in 2019. There were a ton of ports, so I’m going to skip over all of them. Smash released two characters, both somewhat expected. The first one I didn’t enjoy, more generic sword fighters, although the trailer was cool. The second was a much better fit and had a really good trailer that probably faked people out at first.
Luigi mansion looked good. Like all these games however I was hoping for the narrators to go away. Saw more about FE 3 houses and Astral Chain, games that really blew people away in 2018 and both look good. Was not a fan of Demon x Machinima, but knowing now that either bobobo bobo-bobo / old jojo can be a pilot I am now very much interested. Danzer Dragon may be the only on rail shooter like Star Fox we get this year. The Pokemon gameplay was nice, and I got strong Splatoon vibes from the water gym.
Animal Crossing… I don’t like this concept. It’s like pocket camp got turned into a full game, and to me thats lazy and doesn’t build upon New Leaf’s ideas. I love out door crafting, and I like outdoor customization. However, I was hoping for this game to be bigger and more modernized, yet they took it in a direction of small and secluded which is not a good concept in my eyes. It appears furniture and customizable items are very limited too. Combine that with a major delay and this is a kick in the gut (although please delay if it means the game can be a masterpiece.) Theres time for this to change… but man this is a huge downer for me.
Lastly, Zelda… wow… it looks amazing! Sure Link’s Awakening remake, but Breath of the Wild 2 with Ganondorf? Thats going to be an amazing game.
Whose the Winner?
If we are talking 2019, I’m going Nintendo. I didn’t see a single game announced by another developer that came out this year, so with Nintendo having Smash DLC, Luigi’s Mansion, and a ton of ports, That would be my vote.
In terms of 2020? Square Enix did the best job of pleasing their fans. (Nintendo gets docked for the Animal Crossing delay.) So.. those are my thoughts on this years E3.
Rankings:
Nintendo > Square Enix > Ubisoft > Sony + PC Gaming Show > EA > Microsoft > Bestheda.

One of the Final Fantasy games looked exactly like a generic fire emblem game.
Maybe you were thinking of the new mana game?
undead ganon is definitely creepy to see in the new breath of the wild game. really looking forward to seeing more on what will be happening in the story.
i will say that i was not expecting to see grandma being a dedsec member in watch dogs legions, especially with her being a badass, tasing guards and shooting a guard in broad daylight.
