Does this mean that a few of their character's personalities could be changed? Remember that some of the Marvel characters were made either gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. Will Marvel be allowed to create or allow such taboo situations while under Disney?

I dunno about any official situations, but the sheer volume of Marvel x Disney crossover slash-fiction is expected to SKYROCKET.

Consider that Disney also owns Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Miramax Films, all of which offer more mature content then Disney Pictures.

...Strange...they already had a legal run-in over how Howard the Duck (comic, not movie) looked so much like Donald...now...I guess it doesn't matter. Might even see the two together...not that I would care all that much...not a fan of either character. Howard killed one of the Ash Williams' in Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness...so he sucks regardless.

From what I hear, this is purely for financial reasons, namely Marvel had been financing their recent movies themselves, or something like that.

At any rate, this is a shock, and I heard about it just this morning.

But when I hear about this in the morning, I shit bricks. First Disney buys out the old Marvel stuidos that did all those 90's Marvel toons and now this. Not really looking forward to what can happen.

An article i read about this in the NY Times actually had an interesting point about why this combination makes sense. Disney's successful properties are primarily targeting girls, they've been unsuccessful targeting boys. Marvel's products on the other hand are primarily successful with boys, so with this acquisition fills in that hole for Disney.

Now, the question is how Disney handles Marvel, which should be interesting because while Marvel has cut down on the bullshit (variant editions to capture more sales from the collectors market anyone?), they've left me underwhelmed for years.

A lot of people are panicked and worried and it hasn't even been approved by the board yet. A lot of deals fizzle over the table, let's wait and see how this plays out. ^_^

I think it'll help Marvel's income a great deal and might even promote their characters in many ways. As long as Marvel is allowed to do what it does and Disney gives them a better budget for animated adaptations I'm alright with that.

I can seriously picture an animated Spider-Man film with the techniques used by Disney, although aimed at the teens and up demographic.
